Nestled outside of Copper Mountain in Colorado, this caught my attention fast as I was coming back home to Denver. It literally came out of no where, and thus I slammed on the breaks and made a B-line for the shoulder of the road. I thought it would be fun to follow up the ‘peaceful pond’ series with a bit of tranquility on some lakes…;-) Every year the Pelicans return to Lagoon Valley Lake in Vacaville, California. I lived near this lake for several years. Although this beautiful guy wasn’t actually there on this day I photo’d the lake, I thought it would be fun to include him in the picture anyway..

I have been here and seen the coming of man to my rivers. In my shadows have walked wildlife that no longer walk here. From my lofty peaks you can see for many miles. Once I stood higher than the far western mountains. I may have shifted and changed but I remain. My rivers are cold and my forest cool. From my bowels man has both feed himself and built his shelters. He has raped my slopes for my wood. Fought wars within me. I still survive. Mist still shroud my valleys. Flowers still shine their beauty for all to see. Come walk my paths an fish my streams. Stand on my peaks and walk my valleys. Loose yourself within yourself as your cares fade away when your with me. I am the Great Smoky Mountains, the Great Iron Mountains, Far Blue Mountains, the Sha-cona-ga. Featured in All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical 21st December, 2008. Moonlight in Mulranny. Mulranny is a small town in County Mayo on the west coast of Ireland. As with several Irish placenames, it has in recent years undergone a change in spelling reverting back to a former variation. It is now generally spellt Mallaranny, but can also be found as Mullranny and Malaranny. / The town sits on the coastline of Clew Bay. Clew Bay is said to have 365 islands (one for each day of the year). Some are inhabted by small populations and others are used for grazing sheep and cattle. / As can be seen in this shot, at low tide one could walk across the wet sands to the islands. Cattle can be seen wading through the shallows going back and foth from the mainland to the islands. / This is a shot of the view behind my Aunt’s house, taken one night on the way home from the pub. Camera always handy, I set it atop a gate post for stability, set the timer, etc., and it didn’t turn out too bad considering I was three sheets to the wind at the time.
