Often the storm chasing day ends not with the last glow of the setting sun, but with a photogenic show of pyrotechnics dancing from cloud to cloud and into the ground and lasting well into the night. This strike was captured just a few miles from my home after a long day of driving and looking for marvelous supercells and their awe-inspiring structures. Typically, any isolated cells that form during the day in western Oklahoma will race through the portions of Oklahoma that I call home, I just have to drive back ahead of the racing squall line and on such days will end the hunt with a tripod and a camera on this gravel road. It isn’t a part of my public offered storm chasing tours, but instead just my time to relax, snap shutters and enjoy my favorite hobby – lightning photography. I’ve always hoped for a dead centered strike at the end of this long gravel driveway. So many times I have closed my eyes and envisioned this very shot. Then, one night in 2006 after a long day’s work of hunting down tornadoes I ended my chase day in this fashion, opened the shutter and waited – “bang” – I had it! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Be sure to check out my company, StormTours.com. It’s a great opportunity for anyone who wants to chase storms to improve their lightning photography skills and see awe-inspiring photogenic storms. www.stormtours.com AND www.stormchase.com
Lightning strike
Repost I Fixed this one up a bit from my first posting on redbubble of Climate Shift art work
after many many hours and km’s…. this storm was dead and I thought I had missed a ‘dream shot’. The lightinging had become so sparse it seemed ridiculous even sitting on the beach to watch, yet alone be set up to photograph lightning ! / But alas ! this storm had one final freak discharge to exult to earth….ahhh….patience and persistence. :) / / / EOS A2, Fuji Velvia 50. / ©T.Middleton2008 —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / / / / / see more of my weather related photography by clicking below / /

This artwork was featured in Outsiders I didn’t plan on ever uploading this, but I’ve really come to like it. I’ve had it as my desktop background for a few days, and, despite its simplicity, I really enjoy it. This is a photo of a painting (original too big to scan) with slight colour changes made in Photoshop. The light effect was caused by the camera flash, and I thnk it works even better than the way it was painted. Used as background for Wish Upon The Rain

This pic is as it was when I captured it. 2 Nights ago we had a small ice storm, it left about 2 centimeters of ice on every roof, electric lines and every trees in the locality, I have my share of trees surrounding the house, lilac, pines, maples, cedars and bushes of all kind. / Yesterday night was a full moon, the sky was clear of all clouds and the moonlight was very bright with no fog, here are some photos of a series I took around the house, some in total blackness with no street lights to disturb the beautiful bluish rays and hues of the moon and some have a little spark coming from the orange tinted lamp post we have as street lights in front of my house. / This is much better viewed larger, you’ll see… / Hope you enjoy the pics and thank you for viewing! 1-WOOOOOOW! Nick and I were hoping to catch up with Ken Wright for a shoot, but the weather wasn’t looking good. Ken decided to sleep in, but Nick and I drove down to the coast anyway. Sat in the car while it rained and waited, and waited….then walked down to the rocks after dawn, with umbrellas….and waited some more….eventually I weakened and asked for the keys so I could start shooting…. I’m glad I did…..got some rippers, in the end! Thank goodness for the heavy clouds, makes shooting after dawn so much easier! Photo Manipulation Musical inspiration: Akira Yamaoka. There are no lyrics, only music. Best on Full Size As we leave the top of Blue Knob mountain heading toward Claysburg my eye is always taken by this beautiful farm between Pavia and Claysburg on State Forest Highway (3003). On this particular day, May 23, 2009, the clouds were outdoing themselves. Had to pull over and get this snap. I got a kick out of all the poofy dandelions happily propagating away in the foreground and trying to compete with the poofy clouds!! Taken with the Nikon D40x with the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens at 1/320 shutter and f/5.6 aperture. Exposure was set at minus .33 and iso was 200. Post processing included hdr from a single hand-held image duplicated twice to an eval of +/- 2 then run through Photomatix. Gave the old clone tool a workout as this beautiful scene is marred by a giant telephone pole and lots and lots of wires!!!
