Golden Gate Bridge at sunset. I almost packed up my camera and went home thinking the sunset was going to be a flop. All of a sudden the sky turned pink, orange, and purple. I did nothing to this photo other than sharpen it a bit. People don’t want to believe me when I tell them that this IS the way the sky looked that evening. I’m glad I stuck around and didn’t give up too soon.
Well, I have to say I was quite dangerous and the local San Fran’s didn’t seem to appreciate my need to take pictures while I was riding a bike. I guess I was riding a little crooked. I am very proud that I rode my bike across the Golden Gate Bridge. If you ever find yourself in San Fransisco, I highly recomend renting a bike and doing the same. You’ll have to huff up a few hills but it’s definately worth it!

Lots of moventment in the color and texure of the people and atmosphere in this painting. Point Loma Sunset Cliffs and one of it’s arches San Diego California by RD Riccoboni. Acrylic on canvas painting. This area of San dego was a favorite spot of the American Impressionists in the early 1900’s. Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is a 68-acre resource based park stretching along the Pacific Ocean bordering the western edge of Point Loma in San Diego. The 18-acre linear section of the park lies to the west of Sunset Cliffs Blvd. Like La Jolla, and Coronado, Point Loma was a favorite area of the early California impressionist artists, I also enjoy painting there and watching the sea and colors change in the light. The Park’s topography includes intricately carved coastal bluffs, arches and sea caves. It affords inspiring panoramic ocean views. From the cliffs, the California Gray Whale can be seen migrating annually from the Bering Sea to Baja California. Set your sights high, the higher the better. / Expect the most wonderful things to happen; not in the future but right now – / Eileen Caddy The process for making my art pieces includes photography, drawing, painting, and field trips, where I visit sites to paint and discover new places at the same time. Being an avid photographer, I take many pictures of my subjects and when I return to the studio, I dissect them and compile new scenes on canvas or paper. I first make a small painting around 8×10 to 16×20 inches, if I like it; I move on to make a larger painting. I often go to Sunset Cliffs for inspiration or meditation. – RD

Church in Old Town San Diego California by RD Riccoboni I love and appreciate both new and old San Diego, along with the California history that surrounds these settings. I first went out in search of old homes to paint, and soon realized there was so much more beauty in the overall experience of the city. I find the city and its people inspire me at every turn to create art. / This historic California building is the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Old Town San Diego was reconstructed in the 1930’s, after the original structure was razed. Construction on the present day church began in 1868 under the direction of Father Antonio Ubach. The church was finally completed and dedicated in 1919, and, aside from some structural renovations required for current building codes, has since stood the test of time I paint mostly in acrylic and mixed media, where I can include details in ink with the acrylic. I also enjoy pen and ink. Black ink and white paper are a departure from my bold color when I step back and take a break from it. Most of my art scenes depict iconic and historic American city and country architecture, and street-scenes including where I live, San Diego, California. I am fortunate to live in this beautiful city and amazing state that is inspiring to me everyday with its diverse topography, peoples that I experience in brilliant color in shapes and feelings. I paint and draw originals and reproduce into prints and then can share with everyone who comes to my studio and exhibits and beyond.
