At Day’s End As the sun goes down over the front range mountains of Denver, Colorado, the Sunflowers turn, in anticipation of the sun coming back up in the morning. Photographed in a field where all you can see for miles and miles is Sunflowers….billions of Sunflowers. An entire sea of yellow and gold….caught in my lens for a fleeting instant, where the whole world was at peace…. Red Bubble’s First Book /// In the Moment /// Overall Winner / I found myself in Geneva for a week for work last year. The only other time I had been to Switzerland was Zurich for 2 nights in the middle of winter, so I was kind of surprised by the beautiful (and hot!) summer weather I experienced on this visit. / The Lake at Geneva is where everyone goes to cool off and I was mesmerised watching all these crazy dudes doing amazing things off a high-dive on the edge of the lake. I took a few shots and managed to capture this moment among them. / I entered this work into the 2007 Linden Gallery Post Card Show in St.Kilda, and was absolutely stoked to have been awarded one of the six entries to be reproduced as postcards and sold through the gallery.

This guy was pretty cool, sitting there minding his own business, and I just had to get the shot. But as I lifted the camera and looked through the lens he just broke into this mean stare into the lens like he was gonna hurt me. I saw it and quickly pressed the shutter. Later I complimented him on his tattoos and showed him the shot and it was then that his frown turned into a broad grin…phew!

As one of the most iconic images of Scotland, Eilean Donan is recognised all around the world. Situated on an island at the point where three great sea lochs meet, and surrounded by some majestic scenery, it is little wonder that the castle is now one of the most visited and important attractions in the Scottish highlands. Although first inhabited around the 6th century, the first fortified castle was built in the mid 13th century and stood guard over the lands of Kintail. Since then, at least four different versions of the castle have been built and re-built as the feudal history of Scotland unfolded through the centuries. Partially destroyed in a Jacobite uprising in 1719, Eilean Donan lay in ruins for the best part of 200 years until Lieutenant Colonel John MacRae-Gilstrap bought the island in 1911 and proceeded to restore the castle to its former glory. After 20 years of toil and labour the castle was re-opened in 1932

Meg had fun posing, and Nanna had fun with the processing! Created with two photos and a few layers. Extracted the background from the legs, desaturated the colours, overlaid a photo of a texture and blended the background image through. Summer Breeze a beautiful poem by the same title by a dear friend of mine Anne Van Alkemade / Inspired by the song Summer Breeze / by Seals and Croft Also inspired by myself and my experience of having bugs and insects come to try and take up residence in my ears… scrabbling around in there, getting all comfy…while I’m going crazy…click beetles, houseflies and spiders so far have all tried this… lol This is a girl who has an affinity with nature, and as the summer breezes begin to blow here in Australia…....the animals are drawn to live in her hair thinking that it must be branches of a tree… yes, my hair’s that dry… :) I thought it a fitting one for summer, hope you like her… Pencil drawing took me about 3 hours / Digital colouring – 10 hours / Total time 13 hours
