The lagoon was of course not blue. the blue of the sky is false colour obtained from the exchange of the red and blue channels of an infrared picture. The photo was taken in Geelong at the Aboriginal Craft & Cultural Interpretation Centre – Narana Creations. They have a beautiful walk and lots of artwork to buy. It’s a great chance to learn a little more about Australia’s real history. If it sounds like a plug then I guess it is although only by someone who’s been there once and was very impressed. It’s my first infrared lake so I’m happy with the results.

Driving along this almost deserted highway we spotted this Love heart, somewhere between Uluru and Kings Canyon. An amazing piece of work, literally in the middle of nowhere. Hence the title, Love is all around…even in the middle of nowhere….. Whilst I don’t remember exactly where it is, this track caught my eye with the brilliant blue sky, yellow flowers and, just, the colour of the track itself. Took it quite a few years back in outback NSW, Australia. Scan from Fujichrome.

The Sturt Desert Pea is a beautiful wild flower that grows in outback Australia. The Original painting has sold, but not without a story. I had some people come into my gallery saying that they were wanting a painting of Sturt Desert Peas. They said they couldn’t find one anywhere in Broken Hill. My husband kindly offered for me to paint them one. They said they were leaving town in two days and could I have it finished by then? My husband said ””””not a problem”””” – he is a great beleiver. I was not so convinced, but I said I would try. I worked all evening, all the next day and evening until I was satisfied and pleased with the painting. They were due to pick the painting up the next morning. They never came back. Lesson learned: When it comes to Art people are fickle. Always get a deposit and don’t trust their enthusiasm. Always try and do the right thing by others, but don’t expect others to do the right thing by you. Getting angry at others letting you down isn’t worth the energy. / Whoever buys this print, please remember that rich beauty can come out of trying circumstances. The Sturt Desert Pea is a living example – immense beauty growing in the harshest environment. Just over 4000 years ago the building of the great pyramids of Egypt began. The last time Willandra Creek water ran this channel into Lake Mungo was not twice as long ago as that, but probably 4 times as long ago! / Aboriginals were fishing and camping here 12 times as long ago as when the pyramids were being built. / The last 50000 years have been a period of many changes. / The oldes recorded cremation in the world has been found here, at Lake Mungo. It’s still called lake Mungo but these lakes dried 18000 years ago. This site was added to the World Heritage list in 1981 in recognition of its Aboriginal heritage and the evidence of past climates preserved in its landscape.

Scanned slide. It’s been a while since these slides have seen the light of day… so I’ve been having fun revisiting them! Also, reliving the trips I took to take them. Anyone who has been in the Australian outback would have to agree it’s an incredible experience and one that stays with you forever. I have been blessed to have been included on two trips with some dear photographer friends of mine. Both were quite some time ago now and I sometimes find that my memory of where things were exactly taken has become hazy… so you’ll have to forgive me when I say… “somewhere in the Strezlecki Desert” ! I did keep a log of all photographs taken at the time (when, where, etc…) but after several moves it seems to have disappeared… bugger! If you haven’t been outback yet… you should definitely put it on the “to do” list… I know it’s back on mine… : )) Featured in the Outback Australia group
