This beautiful Australian wildflower is a fine specimen of Thelionema caespitosum (Tufted Blue Lily). It was photographed along the Ocean Drive Fire Trail in the Queen’s Lake Nature Reserve just south of Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia, on a wonderful spring day. These little lovelies really stand out among all the native grasses and though they grow fairly sparsely can look quite impressive in a drift. These are blue banded bees, a native to Australia. They are stingless and the females live in nests in the ground. The males are usually close by on the stems of shrubs and grasses. These specimens are holding onto the leaves of a potted plant with their mandibles and dancing as another bee tries to land. I don’t know if the dance is a form of communication, but as other bees communicate this way, it may be. Thanx to Kylie for showing them to me. Rankin Park, NSW.
Indigenous people occupied this site as early as the 9th century. At the time of Spanish exploration under Francisco Vasquez de Coronado, this site was home to one of the richest pueblos in the americas. For that reason, a Spanish mission was erected here in the early 17th century, only to be destroyed during the Pueblo Uprising / of 1680. The mission ruins are located at Pecos National Historic Park about 20 miles north of Santa Fe, New Mexico, near the village of Glorieta. In the foreground is the entrance to a kiva Although some were also built above ground, kivas typically are subterranean structures used for secret rituals and religious practices of native tribes inhabiting the southwestern portion of the U.S.. The practice of constructing kivas began with the ancient puebloans in the ninth century and continues to this day. Most intact kivas are under the control of native american tribes and photography is forbidden. Pentax K20D, 1/60 at F/20, 26mm.
Found myself at a Team Roping Event this weekend…this is an excellent opportunity to be with the Native People, their familys, their horses and their traditions. Highly competive with cowboys and cowgirls of all ethnic backgrounds showing up to try and claim the top prize. But the Native American arrives en-mass as this is their time to shine with their unrivaled horsemanship. / Between the horses, the cowboys and all the action…this time the Native Children caught my eye. If not for the modern clothes…to me, this little girl could have been a child from a hundred years ago… with her classic pensive look. / Original digital photograph. / Sony Full HD 1080 Cyber Shot camera. / My fine Art and Photographic Studio are located in Mesquite, Nevada. / Thank You for viewing my art. _Blue Heron…Thank you, Sacred Waterbird, / for sending reflections to me; / The mirrors of the quest for life, / The words that live inside of me. Show me how relationships work, / With my path woven within the whole, / The lessons of kinship with all life, / Reflecting my spirit’s eternal goal. Jamie Sams_ The medicine of Blue Heron is self-reflection, and asks if you are willing to dive into the watery depths of your own feelings and discover the role of your spiritual essence? Heron is now calling you to delve deeper, to know yourself, and to trust your path. Like the Phoenix, who rises from its own ashes, Heron emerges from the unseen worlds of spirit into a new balanced sense-of-self in order to ebrace its potential again and again. / The magnificence of your human spirit lies waiting for the joy of discovery, if you are courageous enough to follow the Waterbird throughout the journey. Heron reminds you that every traveler on life’s journey is a messenger, and that every destination is the beginning of a new life cycle on the Medicine Wheel. Reflections Photograph taken at Wind River Ranch, as is, while speaking to my sister/friend Judi Taylor ~ love ya lots sis ;) xoxox ♥

I found this lovely specimen of Thelymitra megcalyptra today while out walking on Mount Barker summit, in the Adelaide Hills. Canon 40D, Sigma 17-70.
This Native Orchid was photographed at Majorca (Central Victoria – Australia) at the local cemetry. This cemetry contains graves from as early as the 1860’s when the area was saw an influx of people hoping to find their fortunes on the newly discovered gold fields. The area is now more or less a ghost todayhowever the cemetry is still in use today for local residents. I spent several hours photographing a range of “wild-flowers” at this location and several other central Victorian cemetries. I hope you enjoy this series. If anyone can name these plants I would be appreciative.
A photo I shot with my Canon Rebel XT of Nativity figures that I painted, life size, on plywood cutouts for our church. / Have a blessed Christmas everyone!!
