Yesterday’s rain in our catchment area, southwest of Sydney. A storm rolls in to add to an already healthy water level. Taken from the Burragorang Lookout – if you ever need to escape the rat race for a few hours, head out to this spot – details below. / Exploration of the Burragorang Valley commenced in 1802 and the first bridle track followed to explorers’ trail. A zig Zag road up the mountain started as a track for horses and bullocks but later made a wagon road although it was very steep. The valley became a popluar tourist destination and featured many guesthouses. Completion of Warragamba Dam flooded the valley and residents were moved into the neighbouring towns. From Nattai township, the road leads to the Burragorang Lookout. From this point, visitors can enjoy the spectacular view of the valley, now Lake Burragorang. / Height above sea level: 500 metres. / Wood BBQ’s are available, toilets, Picnic tables, playground and water. / Landscapes Trees Cards EOD Rusty Flowers Architecture Macro CatchAll DM
BEST VIEWED LARGERT This shot was taken on the secenic tourist drive in the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area at sunset, it was created from 4 bracketed images using a Nikon D300 fitted with a Nikon 18-200mm. No filters were used. THe Blue Mountains are located 2 hours west of Sydney by road, also by train for visitors to Sydney, there are also organised day trips via motor coach that will take you to the area for the day…. though if you have the time spend a few days in the area. You can see all the attractions, have a devonshire tea in one of the many teahouses, or sit on the edge of the valley that seems to go on forever, and listen to the birdlife. Bushwalkin g is a must !

Taken on the way to McMahons Lookout, Wentworth Falls (Blue Mountains, Australia) in April 2008. The entire pine forest was lichen-covered … I felt this fallen tree made a wonderful natural sculpture. The Blue Mountains are World Heritage listed – while people visit The Three Sisters and the more popular falls and lookouts in their tens of thousands, this area down Kings Tableland Road is relatively untouched and well worth a visit / Landscapes Trees Cards EOD Rusty Flowers Architecture Macro CatchAll DM / /
This is magnificent Fox Glacier, in New Zealand. I took this shot because of the magnificence and beauty of the Glacier. It has been here for such a long time and is something that should be respected and treated with respect. Fox Glacier is part of the Westland Tai Poutini National Park (established 1960) which extends from the highest peaks of Kā Tiritiri o te Moana/Southern Alps to the remote beaches of the wild West Coast. It is an area of magnificent primeval vistas; snow-capped mountains, glaciers, forests, tussock grasslands, coast, lakes, rivers and wetlands. This world-class scenic landscape has been recognised as such with World Heritage status. This was taken with a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera, as is.

Background Information: / The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided gorge carved by the Colorado River in the U.S. state of Arizona, and parts of Nevada. It is largely contained within the Grand Canyon National Park — one of the first national parks in the United States. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of preservation of the Grand Canyon area, and visited on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery. Longstanding scientific consensus has been that the canyon was created by the Colorado River over a period of six million years, but research released in 2008 suggests a much longer 17 million year time span. The canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, ranges in width from 4 to 18 miles (6.4 to 29 km) and attains a depth of more than a mile (1.6 km). Part of Tomaree National Park and a popular holiday and eco-tourism retreat just 2.5 hours drive north of Sydney and 30 minutes from Newcastle airport. This beach (Fingal Bay) forms part of the day long walk from Tomaree Head (pictured) to the stockton sand dunes. Add another day if you intend walking to the mouth of the Hunter River at Newcastle. The walk is easy and these times are for liesurely walkers, giving ample time for swimming and a stop at the Blue Juice Cafe at Anna Bay!
