  • Photograph was taken at Osaka aquarium during my visit to Japan in 2006 . I used a Nikon D70 and a 50mm 1.4 lens. Camera set in apperture priority at F2.0. Shutter speed 1/40. There was quite strong overhead lighting in the tank. Focus was difficult because the tank was a round shape. I took quite a few shots but this one was the most appealing in terms of the way the jellies lined up. Credit is also to Sophie who was waiting patiently as I was taking the 100’s of photographs over three hours at the aquarium. She did well – and kept her complaining to a minimum because she could see that I was enjoying myself. Must be love

  • Driving along today I spotted this container, so had to go back home and get my camera! I have no idea what the chinese words say, but I can hazard a guess. I was drawn in by the clean strong lines created by the late afternoon sun contrasting with the grungy rusty bits down below. More in this series: /

  • Acrylic On Canvas (Original Sold) Concept: Choosing an adventurous whaleback ride over a sailboat near the coast, choosing adventure in life over the safe, tried and true.

  • I photographed this majestic blue heron in Point Lobos State Reserve in CA. It is fascinating to watch this bird standing on a floating log, for hours, waiting for the right moment to catch a passing fish. —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-- / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-- I will donate 50% of all proceeds from the sale of this image and the ones below to the American Bird Conservancy Consider these images as companions! / And the T-Shirt below

  • Australian Sea Lions at Hopkins Island, South Australia. / Sea Lions are Pinnipeds that is the same family as Seals and Walrus, but not exactly the same. / They are also mammals. / This SeaLion is endemic to Australia, that is it is only found in Australia. They are particularly found in South Australia and Western Australia. / As you can see they are very sociable and very curious. Any profits fro the sale of this piece as a postcard will go to the Australian Marine Conservation Society. The peice is also available as part of a set from thie giftshop; http://amcs.org.au/Product.asp?CategoryID=9 This shot also features in one of my calendar’s

  • Grey Nurse Sharks hang out off the NSW coast. Grey Nurse Sharks are known as Raggy Tooth Sharks in South Africa and Sand Tiger Sharks in the US. They are endangered in Australia, particularly in New South Wales waters yet the government has only made a half hearted attempts to protect the species. This shot is taken at Fish Rock, a known GNS aggregation site. While I was diving here several boats were fishing in this “protected” site (couple of hundred meter radius)...protecting = no anchoring for the fishing boats…..a joke! If there is a happy story for the GNS, its that public awareness of its plight is growing and that has to be a good thing. This shot also features in one of my calendar’s

  • Description…well its kinds obvious, its a Cod in a Cave ;-) Ok, its a Black Cod (Epinephelus daemelii) sorrounded by Eastern Pomfrets (Schuettea scalaripinnis) at Fish Rock Cave (http://www.southwestrocksdive.com.au/) off the Northern NSW Coast, Australia (http://tinyurl.com/a99zm4) Black Cod are classed as a “Vulnerable” species, they are not yet and hopefully will never be endangered. Follow the 2 links above and from one you will see a drawing of Fish Rock Cave. This dive site is one of the must-do dives not just of Australia but of the world! The classic Fish Rock photograph is similar to this one but with Grey Nurse Sharks so it was great to get this shot, particularly as the Black Cod are relatively shy and tend to run and hide when divers approach. This shot also features in one of my calendar’s

I had an urge to do an underwater scene, which I don’t normally do. I don’t usually use rendered figures in my artwork, but for some reason this one really caught my eye. • The other casualties of war—those left behind, are seldom considered after the folded flag is given in memory of their loved one’s sacrifice. This piece pays homage to those left behind, and explores “Feeling the Void”. It features the riderless horse, which, although reserved for colonels, or above, in the Army or Marine Corps, here, symbolizes the soul of the lost soldier. The horse here is a Friesian horse, on which a star blaze has been added as a tribute to “Black Jack”, a long serving riderless horse. The young woman represents a daughter, nearly grown, for all intents and purposes, but always and forever “Daddy’s girl”. Take a moment with me and remember the wives, husbands, children, brothers, and sisters of the lost soldiers who paid their respective country with their life and, also, the lives of those they left behind. Digital work, in watercolor style, June 2009 Suggestions: Sympathy card for someone who has lost a family member in the service. Poster for a child who has lost a parent in the service. And the normal aesthetic pieces for those who love powerful, symbolic art.
