Driving along today I spotted this container, so had to go back home and get my camera! I have no idea what the chinese words say, but I can hazard a guess. I was drawn in by the clean strong lines created by the late afternoon sun contrasting with the grungy rusty bits down below. More in this series: /

Hanbei was a greengrocer from Osaka who married Ochiyo, a village beauty. There love was so strong their story became a village legend. Hanbei’s spiteful mother Omine tormented his new wife with scorn and disdain, so much so that the young couple chose to commit suicide, though Ochiyo was with child. / Perhaps they felt their love would live on, in yet another life? Abstract mixed aquamedia painting including gold leaf, on Arches 140 lb cold pressed paper. Original is 30×22. Paint used was Winsor & Newton transparent watercolor, Pelikan ink, Liquitex iridescent acrylic, and Winsor & Newton gouache. This painting is from my “Interactions” series, using a drip and run technique. Title was inspired by the soft classical music playing as I painted.

Re visiting some older folders of images. This one shows an old ‘fish trap’ fence that was built out into the waters of the ‘Coorong’ National Park in South Australia. Late afternoon light working to creates silhouettes with the remaining fence posts. Canon 400D – 18-55 lens CIR Polarising filter.
