  • Reeshofpark, Tilburg. A photography turned into a digital painting. Having my daughter just picked up from her school on one Friday in November 2007, we ran through the local park to be in time for her ballet class. We were nearly too late, because in the park I couldn’t leave this lovely autumn scene behind me without taking a camera out of the bag! / I love it in big format, so this is a procedure how to make a nice print out of a photograph taken by a simple 2MB digital compact: / - photograph a lovely scene (important!) / - upload the file into your computer / - use software wisely to improve it. / What I did with this one: / - first, in Picasa: Feelin’ lucky, color temperature, sharpen, glow, gradtint / - second, in GIMP: scale, oilify, add frame if desired I hope you will like the result as much as I do. Comments and critiques very welcome :)

  • At the feet of Schesaplana, the highest mountain of Rätikon, Austria, and 1970 meters above sea level, Lünersee is one of the biggest natural mountain lakes of Alps. Construction works between 1920 and 1959 made it a part of a pumped storage hydroelectric scheme. The lake is accessible via a steep ascent on partially secured trail, or, comfortably, by a cable car. Its surroundings make a paradise for hikers, climbers as well as fishermen. And for photographers, of course :)

  • This was taken last year at the Summer Palace in Beijng. /

  • Note the incredible smog. That means no emissions control. The Summer Palace is located on the western edge of Beijing, between the fourth and fifth ring roads, close to the western hills, 12km from central Beijing. It is not expensive to get there by taxi and does not take long. Use a map to tell the driver you want to be taken to the north gate if you want to follow our suggested route through the park, or ask your hotel receptionist to add ‘north gate’ to ‘Summer Palace’ written in chinese script on a piece of paper to show the taxi driver. As its name implies, the Summer Palace was used as a summer residence by China’s imperial rulers – as a retreat from the main imperial palace now known as the Palace Museum (or ‘Forbidden City’) – a pleasureground in the countryside, yet near to the city. The Summer Palace is virtually a museum of traditional Chinese gardening that uses rocks, plants, pavilions, ponds, cobble paths and other garden styles to create a poetic effect between different scenes. When you stroll around the Summer Palace, you will constantly find the area changing.
