last year on the 7th of July 2007 I was looking through a Japanese/English dictionary for a name i could use for the characters that i was designing in illustrator. one word i typed in was prince and up came a few translations including one that caught my eye “mikoto” i spoke to a japanese friend who explained to me that the word was no longer used in that context as it was actually an ancient word used for the son of an emperor. i loved the story and i adopted the word to encompass all of the designs that i do. it has been a year that has where waves of creativity have had to compete with personal needs and my primary profession of being a teacher. What hasn’t waned is the warm and generous support of all my friends and supporters (especially those form red-bubble) from who seem to love what has been created. So i though as the first anniversary of mikoto passed on the 7/7/7 i would put all of the T-shirt designs onto one file. (its a few days late) thanks everyone who has commented, Bmailed, purchased, etc scotty (｡◕‿‿◕｡)

I was inspired by the Japanese artist Hiroshi Senju, who tends to limit his colors in his paintings. Sometimes he paints an image where the background is the complimentary colors of the subject. His style is simple but at the same time intense, where the foreground stands out from the complimentary background. Medium: Watercolors This is a painting done in my sketchbook. The paper isn’t watercolor paper, but at least more durable than regular printing paper. Tis only a few weeks until I move to Melbourne, so I thought I’d get my big, sheet-metalled guy to do some reconnaissance before I landed. Unfortunately, in true gigantic robot fashion, he decided to destroy the picturesque cityscape of the footy city. Apparently it will be rebuilt and ready for when I alight. In 3 background colours … RED, GREEN and BLUE!

Sales of this Design? – 1 sale so far :) / / ’’Asian Series’ card by Karin Taylor This is one of my favourite pieces in the oriental series. / Two little friends falling asleep in their little boats whilst fishing for their supper. / I really enjoyed mixing the colours for this painting, I used colour swatches from paint charts to decide on the colour scheme, and just went to work intuitively mixing til I got the right colours…they are grungier than my other pics and I love the effect…hope you like them too :D
