Another magic sunset in paradise. The colours in this shot have only been tweaked the tiniest amount to make this image more true to what I was actually seeing. When the pink started to reflect on the wet sand I was jumping around like an excited little schoolgirl!

A 4 second exposure over Flinders on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria…This thunderstorm really got going and had me licking my lips with enthusiastic anticipation as frequent pulsating ‘blue’ and ‘purple’ tinged bolts screamed down from the heavens…a bit of a pity it weakened after 10minutes and 10km’s short of my location. Gull Island Cove, NL Bits of glacial refuse were strewn all over the beach behind the breakwater. / We bagged them up, brought them home and boiled them down for the purest tea you have ever had.

Doubtful Sound, Fiordland, New Zealand on a beautiful sunny winter day. This was just after a large dump of snow in the area. Despite the sunny sky it was very cold – you can see the ice on the surface of the water in this shot.

Taken at Rhyll early in the morning when the tide was way out. On the way back from Cowes to Woolamai I thought I might stop by Rhyll as I had never been there before even after all the years we had a house there. I spotted this boat tied up in the mud and couldn’t resist a shot. My shoes sank into the mud real deep and had to give the tripod a good clean. Taken with my Canon 40D with polarising and graduated filters. Some people call the Roseate Spoonbill a Cajun Flamingo. Here is a lovely pink lady balancing delicately on a limb at Jefferson Island rookery where there is a large colony of waterfowl in residence during the spring and summer months.

Lake Martin, at Cypress Island, Louisiana, is a refuge for many water birds, including the great white egret and the great blue heron pictured here, along with moss-draped cypress trees from which the place gets its name.

I’ve completed my move and can finally find some time to pick up my camera and take photos. This sunset is over Penguin Island Shoalwater Western Australia. I’m lucky enough to live within a two minute walk of this wonderful place. Penguin Island is a bird sanctuary, you don’t very often see many penguins in their natural habitat as they are off feeding from dawn to dusk and you aren’t allowed on the island past 5pm which means you don’t get to witness the penguin parade up the beach to their burrows. The island does have a rehabilitation and learning centre though and you can get up close to some penguins that way. Olympus E-410 Featured in the group – Earth Keepers – 14/11/09
