The once ubiquitous Irish-American New York police officer stands at attention like a lone citadel. The classic Irish cop, right on down to his old-school helmet, drooping mustache, and paunch. / Original work was done in watercolors and gouache on Arches cold-press, late 2006.
Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin Kilmainham Gaol has played an important part in Irish history, as many leaders of Irish rebellions were imprisoned and some executed in the jail. The jail has also been used as a set for several films.

©2004 Sara Montour I haven’t uploaded a lot of new photos lately. I’m super busy, but I definitely miss the RedBubble community and am hoping to be more involved. Fridays are a relatively slow day for me, so perhaps that will be my RedBubble day. I took this photo in 2004 when I lived in Ireland. We spent the day by the beach and were very ready to head back home. We finally got all the way back to the car and I saw this little toy and said “hold on! We can’t leave yet! I have an idea!” I ran back to the beach and took this shot and several others.
A middle aged gent takes a brisk walk along the seafront on Dollymount Beach, Bull Island Dublin City. A beautiful part of Dublins Northside and amazingly a place to learn how to drive a car! Very windy and great for windsurfers of all types, both land and sea. Only available as a card at the moment til I get my hands on a neg scanner.

Sunset of Irish Industial Landscape
The Giants Causeway in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. This was taken at the very end of the large causeway about 30 minutes before sunrise on a very rainy day indeed. Signed giclee art prints available at www.henroben.co.uk
Waking up early isn’t my forté, but this magical sunrise pulled me out of bed and down to the river. The morning mists were rolling down and the water was dead calm, as if not wanting to disturb the day. The photo is cross-processed medium format velvia and retains some imperfections.

WINTER The Atlantic Ocean at Lough Swilly, County Donegal, Ireland. December 2008 / Fujifilm Finepix s9600 with polarizer filter
Featured in All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical 21st December, 2008. Moonlight in Mulranny. Mulranny is a small town in County Mayo on the west coast of Ireland. As with several Irish placenames, it has in recent years undergone a change in spelling reverting back to a former variation. It is now generally spellt Mallaranny, but can also be found as Mullranny and Malaranny. / The town sits on the coastline of Clew Bay. Clew Bay is said to have 365 islands (one for each day of the year). Some are inhabted by small populations and others are used for grazing sheep and cattle. / As can be seen in this shot, at low tide one could walk across the wet sands to the islands. Cattle can be seen wading through the shallows going back and foth from the mainland to the islands. / This is a shot of the view behind my Aunt’s house, taken one night on the way home from the pub. Camera always handy, I set it atop a gate post for stability, set the timer, etc., and it didn’t turn out too bad considering I was three sheets to the wind at the time.
The Atlantic shoreline of Donegal, Ireland, at Lough Swilly / Fujifilm finepix s9600
Lough Swilly, County Donegal, Ireland. An inlet of the Atlantic Ocean. / Fujifilm finepix s9600 and polariser filter A beautiful poem, kindly written for this image by my good friend, David Roman. Please visit David’s site and view his beautiful art. / David Roman “The sky lies there before our eyes the world is out there too. / All that I see is a bright new life with you beside me, my wife. / I look at you and say lets go and find a brand new world. / An you my ever thoughtful half say lets stay here, where we are. / We have a life just you an I and all that we have here. / Why venture out to look for more when all we need is here? / Look out my love what do you see out beyond your dreams. / Its you and I an all we need and thats not very far. / Just look at what you want to leave, will you find that in a far off land? / Will sky’s be filled with so much blue like sky’s before my eyes? / Will we have all that we need like we have right here. / Like comfort in the love of family an from all our friends? / Built on years of trust and tears you’d leave that my dear? / Or will we have to search for friends in a place unknown. / I dare not venture out to seek a better land than this, an leave our friends behind. / When all I need is you my love and all that we have here!”
Artwork from Ireland. (Original painting has been done in Acrylics on board) / A summer scene in my hometown of Galway which is on the west coast of Ireland. This was my first ever painting of my own subject matter and I did it in acrylics when I was about 18 years old. I’ve done it in a ‘pointillist’ style as I am very influenced by the French post-Impressionist painters and most particularly, Georges Seurat (1855-1891) who invented the post-impressionist style of ‘Pointillism’ and influenced Signac to paint in the same style. I completed this painting after completing a replica of one of Georges Seurat’s paintings – ‘The Seine at La Grande Jatte’. It was for a college assignment. We were to firstly pick a painting from a great Master, replicate it then do a painting of a similar subject matter using the same style. Pointillism is use of complementary coloured dots placed adjacent to each other or slightly overlapping to create extra colours while viewed from a distance. In a sense it is like optical colour mixing and a study of light. The effect that is created is what Seurat referred to as ‘emotion. This particular scene (my interpretation of Seurat’s ‘Pointillist’ style) is of ‘The University College Boat Club’ in Galway. Galway is a small city in the west of Ireland and is my hometown, so where better to start for an interesting subject matter. In the background, you’ll see some red pre-fabricated buildings and because this was painted many years ago, these pre-fabs no longer exist. In fact there is quite a large building there now. I love lots of colour and I find that when painting in the pointillist style it is possible to put almost every colour in the rainbow into a blur of dots and that this intensity of multi-colour dots helps the whole scene come to life. / Hope you like it. :) Featured in: The Patchwork 9th March 2009. / Featured in: From Masterpiece 10th March 2009. / Featured in: First Things 24th March 2009. / Featured in: ! * Irish Eyes * ! 7th June 2009. / Featured in: Landscape Painting – 12th August 2009. Oil Painting…I painted this quite a few years ago (maybe 1995-1996). It is based on a detail from a famous painting but unfortunately I cannot remember what the name of the painting was or who the original artist was. My version of this painting was painted on 16”x12” canvas board. I’ve decided to name it ‘Ode to an Urn’ as it reminds me of my favourite poem. Ode on a Grecian Urn by John Keats / I also love one of his other ‘Odes’ Ode to a Nightingale ...if I could only find myself a nightingale. LOL!
