One of my first autobiographical pieces. My childhood seed / has finally bloomed / amid the tangled brambles of a forest / confused / by distorted shadows / and I struggle to push back / this oppressive canopy. / Here I stand on the banks / of a world that was once so beautiful. / In this frenzy of growing up / I had almost forgotten the untroubled sleep / of innocent dreams / and those moments laced with magic / only children are divine enough to recognize. / For a moment / I can only stand in the silence / and breathe the fragrant bliss / of absolute stillness. / For a moment / I know that the world I remember / was never really as magical / as wonderful / as I had once believed. / It was only the projection of naïveté / and make believe / but there / upon the horizon / I saw such a world / so far beyond my reach. / The burdens of age were forgotten / and fell away / and, for a moment / I was a child / again. On the 12th day of May 2008 I witnessed (along with thousands of others) a perfect circle in the form of a rainbow around the sun at about noon-time at a beautiful place in the Philippines. Completely perplexed, stunned and amazed at this extraordinary and divine sight, I HAD to create this artwork. Im not sure where you were or what you were doing at this same moment of time but I guess this is all we have. Small pigments of time all squeezed together. And if we’re blessed enough, we get moments like these and realise even for a second the gravity of God’s love. There were no photo’s taken at the time and all I had available to me was the memory of this moment… The moment my heart burned. Print available. / Vector digital art created in illustrator.

This is obviously not an original idea, and I want to thank both ECGardner and Angelique Brunas for their works along these lines that motivated me to explore my own creativity. I hope they do not mind my using their work as a basis for my inspiration, and I am still working to achieve the balance, beauty, and artistry they have exhibited through their respective nature based collages! I will give folks a while to guess what the various panes are comprised of, they should be pretty easy to figure out, later I will insert the proper descriptions of their contents. I received a wonderful email this morining containing this letter. This letter inspired this work of art titled “Safely in Heaven”: THIS IS THE EMAIL I RECEIVED: i DO NOT KNOW MEREDITH OR ABBEY, BUT THIS STORY IS BEAUTIFUL This is one of the kindest things I’ve ever experienced. I have no way of knowing who sent it, but there is a beautiful soul working in the dead letter office at the Post Office. Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words: Dear God, Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick. I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her. You will know that she is my dog. I really miss her. Love, Meredith. We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had. Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, ‘To Meredith,’ in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, ‘When a Pet Dies.’ Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note: Dear Meredith, Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away. Abbey isn’t sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don’t need our bodies in heaven, I don’t have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by. Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you. I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much. By the way, I’m easy to find, I am wherever there is love. Love, / God / ___ I personally believe all animals go to Heaven…. Re 5:9: And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; Re 5:12: Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. Re 5:13: And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. / ____ I created this work using a photo I had taken of my sister-in-law’s pet rottweiler named Lady. I used Photoshop CS3 to merge the images with an image a statue of Jesus from the Huntington Library and a picture of clouds from Arizona. Finally, I edited the image with Micrografx and finished the work. Digitally enhanced. Lady was such a gentle sweetheart. She became ill from lukemia and eventully succombed to her illness. The beautiful thing is that my nieces had already come to the Lord berore this. This incident brought us all closer when we were able to show our family scripture to support our belief’s about animals being created to live forever. Images Do Not Belong To The Public Domain. 2008. Age 21. Originally sketched out with black biro pen on white, smooth bristol board and then shadows and shade enhanced digitally on photoshop. I’ve been wondering what to write aside this image because there’s so much to tell…. So, for now, i think i will reframe from forcing anything and will let the picture say all. Oil Pastel and Acrylic Ophelia dreamed she was on a journey to a foreign land. In that land, she encountered an exotic purple flower with 3 petals. Though strange in appearance,it had the most calming and relaxing scent Ophelia has ever known. Ophelia was most reluctant to leave this flower and its’ scent when she knew her dream odyssey had to come to an end soon.
