Blue Contour II is a modern abstract painting of a young, nude, and beautiful woman. The work outlines the sensual contours of the female torso. / The work is of a semi-erotic nature showing the bare buttocks and back of a sensual female. I guess she is having a little break. I used someone’s photo as a reference for this by the way, But I don’t know who took the photo (it’s all in russian or something. got the reference photo from widelec.org) I don’t want to take credit for the composition etc. It’s just practice for painting.

Then, perchance, a sunny ray / From the heaven of fire, / His lost tools may over-pay, / And better his desire R.W.Emerson I named this painting Virtue after Emerson’s poem “Loss and Gain”, in part because I think the muse has been with me throughout this series…I certainly had “good intent”...I have not had to discard any of the paintings, and all I have done so far have been posted…by now you know that I am not simply painting faces, although on one level it could be seen as such…each portrait tells a story not only of womanhood, but of life in general…they were designed to intrigue, to disturb, to make the viewer think twice about the subject and what it is trying to say…not simply a “Party” like the one before this, but more a statement of what life is or can be…”Virtue” looks out of the frame with parted lips….what is she trying to say about her life?...what does her name mean? As I painted this face, I thought “this is the girl on the subway”..don’t quite know why, but after posting the painting, I still think so... This painting is inspired by the song “The Masquerade” (shown below), by the great Leon Russell who haunted my university days…again it ties in with the two recent articles I posted in my writing pages HERE / The song “asks are we really happy” and for many sadly the answer is no..my lady’s face is sad, with a bleak haunting look in her eyes, expressing the way many people feel on the inside…but there is nothing we can’t overcome with the help and love of others Watercolour on Arches Rough Paper Are we really happy with this lonely game we play, / Looking for the right words to say? / Searching but not finding—understanding anyway, / We’re lost in this masquerade. “The Tarn” is part of the “Weekend in the Country” series, but because I want each work to stand on it’s own, this is painted very differently..sepia tones on fabric… / A tarn (or corrie loch) is a mountain lake or pool, formed in a cirque excavated by a glacier….our four friends have come to an impasse in their journey to another friend for Christmas…trapped by weather in a bothy on a mountain, they have no idea where to go or how to reach help…when we left them they were about to discuss what they should do next…to read the previous chapters and view the other paintings in the series, go HERE Watercolour, coloured pencil, and gouache on Raw Cotton..
