Labe (Czech name for Elbe) is one of the major rivers of Central Europe. It originates in the northwestern Czech Republic before traversing much of Germany and flowing into the North Sea. Its total length has been given as 1,091 kilometres (678 mi). / [From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia] Labe flows through a small town where I spent my whole childhood. It was the first river I have ever seen. I love Labe landscapes, for example this one: a photograph taken from Bastei, interesting rock formation in the National park Saxonia Switzerland, Germany. Taken in April 2002. Canon EOS 500N. No editing.

Featured in Colours of Water Copyright © Sharon Mau 2009 / All Rights Reserved Best viewed full size where you will see the light play an optical illusion of motion as the sunlight on my right dances on the water. / I created these ripples with the rudder of my paddle boat, lining it up to ripple toward the center cloud! / It took about 8 attempts, adjusting the rudder slightly in my attempts to get the ripples as perfectly horizontal as possible. Kissing Camels in Garden of the Gods park is a favorite red rock sandstone formation. The moon eclipse over the sun addition in the sky, looks like a sparkling diamond ring. This is the fractalius version. The original is also in my gallery.

As some of you may have noticed, I like to use mushrooms in my images. They’re just so wonderfully odd-looking. In the “Cosmic Mushrooms” series, I pair them with images of nebula taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. The shapes of fungi thrusting though the earth and jets of gas pushing against the interstellar medium echo each other wonderfully, so that even a toadstool several parsecs across isn’t completely strange… “Cosmic Mushrooms 3” combines an image of the Tarantula Nebula with a photograph from stock.xchng member “McKenna P” (moonfire8).
