Today I ventured again into the blue forest in the early-morning mist, so full of unforseeable dangers and adventures. It proved to be another lucky day – all monsters had taken a day off!, and so I came home with a load of worthwhile pictures, happy that I had managed again to get up and out so early. To say the truth, I had to give myself a good push first, but when I looked out of the window and saw the mist, the blue world outside lured me irresistably to get on my bike again. At this time of the year the Amanita muscaria (also known as fly agaric) grow in profusion in the pine needles of this forest in the Blue Mountains (NSW, Australia). I believe they have magic qualities if eaten (I can imagine!!) ... there must be some very happy little creatures around as a lot of the mushrooms have holes in them! Sure, I could say the music I listen to, the stories and poems I read, but that doesn’t really explain why certain images and ideas come to me. Reality has never really done it for me, and I remember being a young child who wondered why life had to consist of only the normal, boring, everyday routine. Why did I have to live vicariously through films like “The Little Mermaid” and “Alice and Wonderland”? Why couldn’t I make this abstract longing for the surreal and the impossible come to life on my own terms? My dream has always been to give life to the ideas that come to me, to make them visible.
