Lightning striking in the mountains behind a home in the Arizona desert.

Huge lightning bolt striking in Cave Creek, Arizona.
This is an infrared shot. It was a very overcast day – not much blue sky about at all so I tried something a little different with this one. / Hope you like it.
A little play with light, power and a timer. Not my usual style of photography, but I am having fun with it! I only adjusted the gamma on this. the rest is natural, the way I shoot.
Enjoy! _
revolutionary for its time, the shape of the fender bass headstock has become an icon of the 20th century
Well this is the shot that made it into the 2008 channel ten weather calendar, so I’m pretty proud of that.Getting this into the calendar was my first… ‘public’ recognition of my work so this is a pretty special shot to me. it is lightning over Adelaide looking down from Mount Osmond. It was taken in December 2006 and featured on the following nights news broadcast.

Background Information: / A wind turbine is a rotating machine which converts the kinetic energy in wind into mechanical energy. If the mechanical energy is used directly by machinery, such as a pump or grinding stones, the machine is usually called a windmill. If the mechanical energy is then converted to electricity, the machine is called a wind generator, wind turbine, wind power unit (WPU), wind energy converter (WEC),or aerogenerator. This article discusses electric power generation machinery. Windmill discusses machines used for grain-grinding, water pumping, etc. The article on wind power describes turbine placement, economics and public concerns. The wind energy section of that article describes the distribution of wind energy over time, and how that affects wind-turbine design. See environmental concerns with electricity generation for discussion of environmental problems with wind-energy production. Electric Brain / Science fiction has been mentioning artificial intelligence for decades. However it’s becoming more and more a reality. Robots are being build to resemble humans in every way and computers are able to proces data with superhuman speed. / So what will the future bring for humanity? Do we all have a robot clone which takes over our day job, so that we can do whatever we like? Or are we going to be upgraded with implants to make our brains work faster and more efficient? / This may be a distant future, but this t-shirt will bring the future to you! This is also my entry for the Halftone challenge, the halftones are in the brain as can be seen in the detail image below. / Detail image / Other t-shirts / /
Como Marina and Bridge just after sunset – Como, Sydney, Australia. The interesting thing about this photo is that I was experimenting with delaying the time between each of the bracketed shots to capture the a train going each way on the bridge and I think this may have added to the vivid electric blue colour. The first shot was taken about 15 mins after sunset and the other two bracketed shots were taken 5 and 10 mins later respectively. You can see this a little in the fact that the boat on the right is a bit fuzzy. Very little post processing was done on this shot other than the obvious HDR process in Photomatix. Other that that it was just a minor crop to get rid of something I couldn’t see in the low light in the forground in iphoto and thats it. Nikon D90, Sigma 10-20mm @ 10mm, f10, HDR’ed in Photomatix with 3 exposures, mtr, -2 & +2, at 20, 6 & 30 seconds, iphoto, Slik 614CF tripod, Nikon ML-L3 remote.
