On the 12th day of May 2008 I witnessed (along with thousands of others) a perfect circle in the form of a rainbow around the sun at about noon-time at a beautiful place in the Philippines. Completely perplexed, stunned and amazed at this extraordinary and divine sight, I HAD to create this artwork. Im not sure where you were or what you were doing at this same moment of time but I guess this is all we have. Small pigments of time all squeezed together. And if we’re blessed enough, we get moments like these and realise even for a second the gravity of God’s love. There were no photo’s taken at the time and all I had available to me was the memory of this moment… The moment my heart burned. Print available. / Vector digital art created in illustrator.

Fiiiiiiinally finished. A companion piece to this one I did a year and a half ago: I decided the other day that there was a distinct lack of blue paintings in my folio! Had to rectify the situation. He is approx 30cm square, watercolour/pastel etc on canvas. He has shiny silver leaf on his spikes too.

Drawn 2008. Age 21. Drawn with a blue biro pen and a blue colouring pencil… and a slight coat of polish in Photoshop. That there, holding tightly to the cave. is a Plar. / Plars are intriguing little creatures. Beneath their small and fragile form… and past their big alluring eyes… is a courageous and determined spirit. I’m writing a book on them at the moment, a children’s book… So i like to think of this image and my other previous Plar drawings as playful ideas and concept art This scene is an important one… The Plar doesn’t see a furious beast, he sees a reflection of himself; he sees a creature that is saddened by loneliness. The dragon is feared by animals, hunted by warriors and greedily sought for their thick scales. It is a creature that is forever cursed by its majesty. .. Doomed to live and die alone. / This Plar, however, can see past the Dragon’s evil exterior; he can look beyond the teeth, the claws and the mighty roars. He doesn’t see rage… He sees sorrow and sadness… He sees loneliness. This is why this Plar has climbed high into the sky to the Dragon’s cave… This is why he has picked the rarest flower and offered it as a gift… This is the Plar’s loving gesture.

Once they all believed in dragons / When the world was fresh and young, / We were woven into legends, / Tales were told and songs were sung, / We were treated with obeisance, / We were honored, we were feared, / Then one day they stopped believing- / On that day, we disappeared. / Now they say our time is over, / Now they say we’ve lived our last, / Now we’re treated with derision / Where once we ruled unsurpassed. / We must make them all remember, / In some way we must reveal / That our spirit lives forever- / We are dragons! We are real! ~ © Jack Prelutsky ©2008 Globalphotos All rights reserved. / All photographs, text and images by Globalphotos are the exclusive property of Globalphotos – protected under Australian and international copyright laws. / These images may not be reproduced, copied or manipulated without written permission. / No use for Public Domain. / Use of any image for another photographic concept or illustration is a violation of copyright. This is a set of 4 wee beasties, each canvas is 10×10cm – little. I painted them for a group show opening tomorrow at Brunswick Street Gallery. A weird thing happened while I was painting this. I was looking at the blank canvases, thinking about how I was going to paint a brown wash across the bottom 3rd of them. Just then my rams’ skull randomly fell off the wall, knocked over my coffee cup which spilled a brown coffee wash over the bottom third of one of the canvases. After cleaning up the spill I picked it up and realised it was exactly what I had intended to do, but with paint! These enlargements are bigger than life size: One day when I’m rich I’m going to commission someone to make me a bathtub just like this.
