This is a perfect depiction of the inner working of my mind. This photo was taken between 3 – 4 a.m. on one of the many cold nights I couldn’t sleep. I was staring out the window, staring into the darkness, feeling very aware of the cold, quiet beauty in the night sky.
I know this is the same dead tree as in Nirvana but I’ve processed to quite differently. It was also taken an a different day in very different weather conditions and the sky was cloudy. / I’d like to know what you think please… / / / / / / / / / /

After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.”
St Mary’s loch in the scottish borders on a windless day. Wonder if you can guess the mystery object a tthe end of the jetty ............. something beginning with….......... w…..... OK you can stop squinting now – its a wheelbarrow of all things! The distant movement is the rescue boat coming back from relaying a racing mark…and the concrete block and the enormous length of rope/chain attached was pretty heavy! The loch is three miles long by half a mile wide, set in spectacular surroundings in the middle of the Southern Uplands about 50 miles south of Edinburgh. To preserve the peace and tranquility, only sailing boats use it, apart from the a few small fishing craft and the club rescue boats. / / It is much bigger and deeper than the nearby loch of the lowes and the bottom drops away suddenly to great depths within yards of the shore. See also no wind today stones in the water help the mast looks wonky! sheep can swim and under the wire* taken on the same day from another angle – what a difference! />http://www.redbubble.com/people/dinghysailor1/art/1077711-1-under-the-wire
View of Lago di Garda (Lake Garda) from the castle of Malcesine. A silhouette of the castle walls -as well as that of cypresses, so typical for Mediterranean!- is visible in the foreground. Taken in August 2001. Canon EOS 500N, 28-80mm. Post-processing: retouch, sharpening, color. Click here to see more photos from Lago di Garda:

At the outer edge of Melbourne Australia, a lone tree looks out on a beautiful sunset :) Technical Notes: Used 3 exposures in Adobe camera raw, enhanced the already beautiful colour and contrast just slightly. The sky is filled with windswept clouds behind an old weathered tree. Windswept Skies was featured in Skyscapes Group, September 2009
The Frauenkirche in Dresden on a stormy evening. The Frauenkirche was destroyed in wwii after a firestorm and rebuild between 1994 and 2005. / Long exposure (15seconds at f11), therefore the dramatic sky. No HDR, but good old handcraft ;)
A dark and cloudy morning at the lake….the quiet was rather eerie that morning. I enjoy cloudy days once in awhile, as we rarely see them here in Estes Park where we have 300+ days of sunshine each year. Our skies are generally very blue and if we have clouds, they are white and beautiful….. Estes Park, Colorado. Cloudy
I love sun rays and yesterday the clouds arrived so I decided to burn my retina and shoot towards the sun. Nikon D40 18-55mm with circular polarising filter. Artistic filter add in PSP as there was slight pixalation which I wanted to get rid of!
I went to a Travis show out in Berkeley. The last song they played was “Why does it always rain on me”. So this visual popped up in my head. Enjoy!
3200 ISO is a brave new world for me. As a self confessed low ISO junkie, one who used Ektar 25 film whenever and wherever he could for many years because I wanted tight grain, the tighter the better, I would pull out all the stops I could to use that amazing ISO 25 film! For sure I’d never gone above ISO 1000 and then only to shoot indoor sporting events. Low ISO was(?) a hang-up for me! But I wanted to try astral photography and high ISO can get you there! However as we all know high ISO leads to increased noise which is something fairly new to me. You can use software and Photoshop plugins but I’ve been considering, one way to control noise would be to minimize or eliminate it by keeping the ISO as low as possible and that’s one way I‘m leaning. So in that regard it looks like a fast 50 prime is in order! It’s fun to be experimenting and learning, eh! Camera Model Canon EOS 50D / Tv( Shutter Speed ) 30 / Av( Aperture Value ) 3.5 / ISO Speed 3200 / Focal Length 18.0mm / Flash at 1/16 power and about 12 or 13 paper towels for diffusion. “One Night Under the Milky Way” was shot at Flamber Head on Newfoundland’s East Coast Trail For more information please visit Brian’s Homepage or on Flickr
This is a shot I took after shooting One Night Under the Milky Way I brought the ISO down from 3200 to 100 of course I had to compensate by opening up the shutter for a longer period! That night, Monday July 20, 2009, I was out about 3 hours and I could see this bright object just above the horizon to my left and in what must have been about a 2 hour duration is had only traveled about 15 or 20 degrees in the sky. I’m not completely sure but I think it is the International Space Station and that night it had the Space Shuttle docked to it! Camera Model Canon EOS 50D / Firmware Firmware Version 1.0.2 / Shooting Date/Time 7/21/2009 12:29:44 AM / Tv( Shutter Speed ) 1462 / Av( Aperture Value ) 4.0 / ISO Speed 100 / Lens EF-S18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS / Focal Length 18.0mm “Star Trail” was shot at Flamber Head on Newfoundland’s East Coast Trail For more information please visit Brian’s Homepage
