The cliff face shimmered slightly as the craft slipped softly into the blue. They hugged the sheer wall until they were well clear, then dipped into the powdered soft whiteness beneath. It had been a while since their last meeting. Hopefully this one would go better… I have used this digital painting as the cover for my / 2009 Sci Fi Calendar

I took this shot on Bell Island, if you look closely at the base of the cliff you can see a natural tunnel that has been bored through the rock by the water and out to the other side. The bravest and most daring of kayakers venture into these tunnels to explore. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / / /

My Country The love of field and coppice, / Of green and shaded lanes. / Of ordered woods and gardens / Is running in your veins, / Strong love of grey-blue distance / Brown streams and soft dim skies / I know but cannot share it, / My love is otherwise. I love a sunburnt country, / A land of sweeping plains, / Of ragged mountain ranges, / Of droughts and flooding rains. / I love her far horizons, / I love her jewel-sea, / Her beauty and her terror - / The wide brown land for me! A stark white ring-barked forest / All tragic to the moon, / The sapphire-misted mountains, / The hot gold hush of noon. / Green tangle of the brushes, / Where lithe lianas coil, / And orchids deck the tree-tops / And ferns the warm dark soil. Core of my heart, my country! / Her pitiless blue sky, / When sick at heart, around us, / We see the cattle die- / But then the grey clouds gather, / And we can bless again / The drumming of an army, / The steady, soaking rain. Core of my heart, my country! / Land of the Rainbow Gold, / For flood and fire and famine, / She pays us back threefold- / Over the thirsty paddocks, / Watch, after many days, / The filmy veil of greenness / That thickens as we gaze. An opal-hearted country, / A wilful, lavish land- / All you who have not loved her, / You will not understand- / Though earth holds many splendours, / Wherever I may die, / I know to what brown country / My homing thoughts will fly. The plan worked to perfection, Breehemoth, unleashed his pneumatically assisted whipper arm and plucked Zola from the air. The shock on Zola’s body was immense, his eyes bulged and his sausage roll super thrusters, deprived of much needed airflow, whined in protest. He was fast losing consciousness. The red world blurred and greyed at the edges and all sound receded in a rapidly closing mental fog. The Breehemoth opened its jaws in delight and cast victorious glance down at Zola, no more would these free flyer, cliff-dwellers, disrupt operations at the hill. His last thought was a brief concern as to the whereabouts of Zola’s partner, Gorgon. The distraction had worked, The excitement registered by the Breehemoth, had momentarily diverted power from its dome shield and Gorgon punched through the soft tissue, his internal processors and deft pink fingers worked at light speed, to sever and remove the Breehemoth’s core controller –its brain. Zola dropped from lifeless fingers, his motors roared into life on auto pilot and took him up to a safe altitude, where he came round to see Gorgon next to him. Gorgon and Zola roared off into the red sky with cheesy grins plastered over their faces.

This landscape was made in Terragen. The terrain was a gift from a friend. I designed the water, covering for the land, and the sky. This is not photography; this is a digital landscape. It is purely a figment of my imagination.

The constant parade of swells breaking at Bells Beach always thrills a surfer when they arrive and see this view from the carpark. Although on this day, it was only for the ‘brave and daring’ as the surf was the result of a very severe storm the previous day and was very heavy and a bit messy.
