  • I suppose you can say I have always been a sucker for old cars, especially Hotrods. There is something about the design and style of the years gone by, that todays designers in the automotive world have lost…the subtle curves of the body line, the way the trim fits along the body, and the overall composition and style….rolling sculpture. Elegance and style which is no longer created by the manufacturers but now recreated by those who spend many a late night out in the garage building a Kustom, wielding the torch, throwing the lead, and hammering the seams. Art it one of it’s most purest forms. Creativity personified. This is quite an older shot but remains one of my favorites, the color in this and the reflection caught my eye when I first captured it. I am not a huge fan of tri-year Chevy’s, but this ‘56 was just to good to pass up. Hope you all like it as much as I do / —-John / —-—-—-—-—-—-—— See more on my website jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. • Hopefully the title says it all. A couple commented on perhaps the reality/unreality of the image. It is a 3D render, using photographed skin for a shader and High Dynamic Range Lighitng a spotlight and Global Illumination. Thus contributing to the ‘realistic’ side of it. Skin normally has light penetrate the surface and bouncing around (Sub Surface Scattering). This was not turned on. Also, I gave it a High Key filter (NIK software). These two helped add to the unreality of an already unreal model.. It is normally possible to add to ‘photo reality’ in photoshop. I did another render with Sub Surface Scattering turned on and tried a few things in photoshop. I didn’t spend that much time in Photoshop, but I would be interested if anyone thinks they look more ‘photographic’ even with a quick couple of filters on top.

  • A tops’l schooner has been wrecked ashore in shallow water, in the North East coal harbour of Cullercoats, circa1880’s. Most winter’s saw at least one sailing ship wrecked at the mouth of the river Tyne. A Victorian photo from my priceless book, was used for the painting. Watercolour and HB pencil drawing. 12” x 8”.

  • Taken at the end of a beautiful winter day here in Wellington, at the Oriental Bay yacht harbour. I particularly liked the classic lines of the yacht nearest the camera.
