  • Cape Reinga Light house, The lighthouse was built in 1941 and first lit during May of that year. It was the last manned light to be built in New Zealand and replaced the Cape Maria Van Deimen Lighthouse, located on nearby Motuopao Island, which had been built in 1879. The name of the cape comes from the Māori word ‘Reinga’, meaning the ‘Underworld’.[3] Another Māori name is ‘Te Rerenga Wairua’, meaning the leaping-off place of spirits.[4] Both refer to the Māori belief that the cape is the point where the spirits of the dead enter the underworld.

  • From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Osteospermum plants originate from South Africa and the name is derived from the Greek osteon (= bone) and Latin spermum (= seed). Osteospermums belong to the daisy family ( Compositae / Asteraceae), hence their common names: African Daisy or South African Daisy, Cape Daisy and Blue-eyed Daisy. There are about 50 species, native to Africa, 35 species in southern Africa, and southwestern Arabia. They are half-hardy perennials or subshrubs. Therefore they do not survive outdoor wintry conditions, but there is still a wide range of hardiness. • I’ve been driving past that old, rusty, yellow ‘control tower’ near a light air craft strip for years. This is were the pilots hang out during Whale Shark Season when they do the spotting of the sharks and scenic flights. The light was right and I wanted do add a little more drama using a 15mm lens. Would make an excellent film set.
