  • When I got my Canon PowerShot A640 in the early Summer of 2007 I started taking various shots in the backyard. This image of a purple Iris was one of the first macro shots I had ever taken, and definitely one of my most popular images here on RedBubble. It was named Iris’ Tongue because it looked to me like it was sticking out it’s “tongue”. / / “Iris’ Tongue II” has been shown as a part of the Flower Power Project Exhibition in Frisco, Texas. / / “Iris’ Tongue II” is available in all print formats offered by RedBubble. / / / / / / / / Check out more of my art from these categories: / Holiday Cards / Abstracts / Sketches / Birds / Seascapes/Landscapes/Sunsets / / Subscribe to art updates / Subscribe to T-shirt updates / Become a fan on FaceBook / Add me as a friend on FaceBook / Follow me on Twitter _____________ /

  • Taken in a old disused barn, I couldn’t resist the gorgeous light in there, ended up shooting the formals in there also. / I used a inverted highpass layer with soft light blend for the softness, then made a mask and painted off the areas I wanted detailed. For sharpness I made another highpass layer at a setting of 1px and changed blend to vivid light, applied a mask and then painted the detail to where I want it. Then to finish off with a slight burning-in here and there. / It’s important to find good light to start with, otherwise this type of processing just won’t work in most cases.

  • When I discovered this roseform begonia with HUGE 7-inch blooms in a California nursery, I just HAD to copy it with brush and watercolor. What fun! / 9”x 12-1/2” watercolor on Arches 140 cold press, painted with Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors. ©Pat Yager 2008 All rights reserved.

  • This picture took a long time to create. The flowers (Chamaescilla corymbosa) are very common in the bush near my home, but they are also very tiny, so it is difficult to create a frame free of “clutter”. I wanted the orange flower to be an out-of-focus background contrast to the main blooms, while having all the stamens sharp. Lots of time lying down with the tripod in amongst the jackjumpers! Velvia scan. “Dance with me!” was featured in the group A Beautiful Blur.

  • Romance is back. I needed to work on an image with a touch of warmth today as it’s -7 outside. A composite of various photographic, text and texture layers (21 layers in total) Another in the series of works including poetry by my favourite poet Emily Dickinson. WHEN roses cease to bloom, dear, / And violets are done, / When bumble-bees in solemn flight / Have passed beyond the sun, / / The hand that paused to gather / Upon this summer’s day / Will idle lie, in Auburn,— / Then take my flower, pray!

  • .... despite the nibbled imperfections… a taste of scottish spring ;)) (albeit shot last year on my Nikon coolpix 4800 in macro mode using self timer) Thanks for looking… :)))

  • Cherry Blossoms TTV Style – the classic spring flower image with a bit of a photographic twist!

  • The species are perennials from bulbs, the tunicate bulbs often produced on the ends of stolons and covered with hairless to variously hairy papery coverings. The species include short low-growing plants to tall upright plants, growing from 10 to 70 centimeters (4–27 in) tall. They can even grow in the cold and snowy winter. Plants typically have 2 to 6 leaves, with some species having up to 12 leaves. The cauline foliage is strap-shaped, waxy-coated, usually light to medium green and alternately arranged. The blades are somewhat fleshy and linear to oblong in shape. The large flowers are produced on scapes or subscapose stems normally lacking bracts. The stems have no leaves to a few leaves, with large species having some leaves and smaller species have none. Typically species have one flower per stem but a few species have up to four flowers. The colourful and attractive cup shaped flowers typically have three petals and three sepals, which are most often termed tepals because they are nearly identical. The six petaloid tepals are often marked near the bases with darker markings. The flowers have six basifixed, distinct stamens with filaments shorter than the tepals and the stigmas are districtly 3-lobed. The ovaries are superior with three chambers. The 3 angled fruits are leathery textured capsules, ellipsoid to subglobose in shape, containing numerous flat disc-shaped seeds in two rows per locule. Taken with a Canon Digital Rebel XSI and a Canon Auto Focus Extension Tube EF 12 II….. AS IS / 428 views as of 11-14-2009
