  • Close-up shot of a bright yellow tulip bud

  • A white tulip amongst a mass of red tulips.

  • From within, everything shines with its own little light. You just have to stop, pay attention, and look closely sometimes.

  • My husband’s paternal grandmother, Tootsie, died at the age of 95. She had a sound mind and sound body and an enduring love for gardening, something she cultivated till she breathed her last. Before she died, she gave her grandchildren amaryllis bulbs and to this day, many many years after her passing on, we still have the fruits of her labors. This is one of Tootsie’s amaryllis bulbs that is about to burst into bloom, many springs after her death.

  • Was about to put the tulip in the bin as it’s now past its best – or is it? Glad I took another look, then added the droplet before taking a photo.

  • This is a small “slice” of my mother’s garden; she is a master gardener. Anything she plants thrives beautifully, and my father is just as good as she is. He saves watermelon and tomato seeds when he eats at restaurants, dries them, plants them, and harvests a good crop later on. What a wonder my parents are; truly their hearts are in the garden.

  • This tiger lily was part of a beautiful bouquet my husband gave me for our 37th wedding anniversary on July 3. One of my favorite things about tiger lilies are the little “freckles” that dot the innermost parts of the petals.

  • Glorious daffodils on a lovely spring day at Cox Arboretum in Dayton, Ohio. This was entered in a song challenge last year on another website and when I was considering what to enter, I saw this photo and the song from the musical “West Side Story” immediately came to mind. I liked it so much, I kept the title. This is one of my favorite images. Canon A720 IS / f/4 / 1/125 sec. / April 2008 / minor cropping and slight sharpening © Rachel Stickney 2008 / ~~ / Narcissus is the botanic name for a genus of mainly hardy, mostly spring-flowering, bulbs in the Amaryllis family native to Europe, North Africa, and Asia. There are also several Narcissus species that bloom in the autumn. Daffodil is a common English name, sometimes used now for all varieties, and is the chief common name of horticultural prevalence used by the American Daffodil Society. The range of forms in cultivation has been heavily modified and extended, with new variations available from specialists almost every year. All Narcissus species have a central trumpet-, bowl-, or disc-shaped corona surrounded by a ring of six floral leaves called the perianth which is united into a tube at the forward edge of the 3-locular ovary. The seeds are black, round and swollen with hard coat. The three outer segments are sepals, and the three inner segments are petals. Though the traditional daffodil of folklore, poetry, and field may have a yellow to golden-yellow color all over, both in the wild species and due to breeding, the perianth and corona may be variously colored. Breeders have developed some daffodils with double, triple, or ambiguously multiple rows and layers of segments, and several wild species also have known double variants. • Easter Lily (Macro-As Is) Easter morn with lilies fair / Fills the church with perfumes rare, / As their clouds of incense rise, / Sweetest offerings to the skies. / Stately lilies pure and white / Flooding darkness with their light, / Bloom and sorrow drifts away, / On this holy hallow’d day. / Easter Lilies bending low / in the golden afterglow, / Bear a message from the sod / To the heavenly towers of God. -Louise Lewin Matthews By: / Terri~Lynn
