  • The Tian Tan Buddha appears serene and dignified. His right hand is raised, representing the removal of affliction. His left hand rests on his lap in a gesture of giving (dhana). The Buddha faces north which is unique among the great Buddha statues. (All others face South.) I’m not a very religious person, but I need to know where my religious background stands in my family. This place was definitely the eye opener. How do they even carry all the 250 tonne bronze to make a 34 metre high statue up there?! A remarkable achievement. • The Priestly Blessing, (Hebrew: Birkat Kohanim), also known in Hebrew as Nesiat Kapayim, (lit. Raising of the Hands), is a Jewish prayer recited by Kohanim during certain Jewish services. It is based on a scriptural verse: “They shall place My name upon the children of Israel, and I Myself shall bless them.” It consists of the following Biblical verses (Numbers 6:24-26): May the Lord bless you and guard you. / May the Lord shine His countenance toward you and be gracious to you. / May the Lord lift up His countenance toward you and give you peace. The source of the text is Numbers 6:23-27, where Aaron and his sons bless the Israelites with this blessing. This is the oldest known Biblical text that has been found; amulets with these verses written on them have been found in graves in dating from the First Temple Period, and are now in the Israel Museum, Jerusalem. Various interpretations of these verses connect them to the three Patriarchs; Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, or to three attributes of God; Mercy, Courage, and Glory. I shot the image during Birkat Kohanim at the Western Wall Jerusalem, Passover April 22 2008. / It’s a new tradition that every Passover there is a mass ceremony of Birkat Chohanim in the Wstern Wall. featured in the following groups: / Art of the Middle East / Bagels and Lox – Jewish themed art and writing / ImageWriting / Happy Haven Photography / Dimensions / All Street Portraiture & Photography

  • This calender consists of a series of ongoing portraits created through the process of stepping out of my own way and allowing collected imagery symbols mixed media and intuition to BECOME! Once upon a time…... I planned my art by doing a sketch or having an idea….at least a place to start. And once upon a time I realized there was more that needed expressing than my underused brain could imagine….and I have a GOOD imagination. This intuitive way of working was a necessary step in my own evolution as artist and being….to relinquish control….to learn to listen to my inner guide or higher self. I came to find during this exercise that ‘what I was asked to put on canvas’ seemed to make no sense at all …...just strange little pieces from nowhere…or so I thought yet as I was living my life I realized that it made no sense either. I concluded that this no sense or nonsense I was creating through my judgment actually reflects the innate sense we come from and all have,,,,THE BIG SENSE….....a sense beyond …....and so I trust this way of working more than I trust my way of working! LOL Enjoy IN JOY in whatever sense you can.

  • This is my little angel statue which survived massive trees falling all around it during Hurricane Gustav. After the storm, when the tree surgeons came to remove the debris that was everywhere, I forgot to tell them that a little angel was under three of the many splintered trees in my yard and that the angel should be moved to safety before they downed the broken oaks. As the giants came crashing to the ground, I remembered and cringed. Now, she’s crushed, I knew. But I was wrong. After the piles of wood were moved away, there was the statue, still intact! It had made it through two calamities! Today, it is a symbol to me of survival, a symbol that miracles do happen. May miracles abound this Christmas and in the New Year. Blessings to all!

  • As I finished this work this morning, I was soon reminded that my path must be sacred and true, as I witnessed 4 Bald Eagles and 2 Golden Eagles sitting along the river treeline, never since we’ve been here have I seen a grouping like this together. My body was tingling from head to toe and I got so caught up in the beauty, I could only take a few photographs (which I’ll share soon). / In Northern America, the Eagle was considered great medicine power. To the Native Americans there were different kinds and divisions of Eagles. The Golden Eagle had a very high rank. The most potent and magical was the Sky Eagle which the Iroquois called Shadahgeyah. Among the Hopi, the Eagle god was called Kwahu and according to their legends, this great bird seldom came below the clouds; only the holiest of Shamans ever saw it. Even the Aztecs said this bird represented celestial power and the rising Sun. / As a Solar Eclipse approaches with the Chinese New Year on 1/26/09, the thought behind this Mandala becomes more clear…”We Are ALL One Tribe” Rainbow Hoop Created with Wacom Graphic pad/pen and enhanced with Redfield plug-in fractilius filter and photoshop7

  • “Do not remember the former things, / Nor consider the things of old. / Behold, I will do a new thing, / Now it shall spring forth; / Shall you not know it? / I will even make a road in the wilderness / And rivers in the desert.” / ~Isaiah 43:18,19 “A Heart To Receive” is about a heart fully surrendered to God’s Will which means it is ready to accept God’s blessing in whatever capacity or means by which it can be achieved. It is about throwing away the past and embracing the future hope that the Lord has provided. Out from the heart flows the waters of forgiveness, and Grace is next in line waiting her turn. • A week after receiving a ‘deeksha blessing’, I kept envisioning this same symbol, over and over again, so yesterday I decided to attempt drawing it, photographed the drawing then began playing with it in photoshop7 and redfield plug-in fractilius. After finishing the piece, my curiosity got the better of me and I began searching to see if there was a meaning behind it… Turns out that it is one of eight “Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism” or Ashtamangala, associated with the physical form of Buddha. The endless knot or shrivatsa (sanskrit) is a closed, graphic ornament composed of right angled, intertwined lines. It is conjectured that it may have evolved from an ancient naga symbol with two stylized snakes. / It signifies a dramatic interplay/interaction of the opposing forces in a dualistic world of manifestation, leading to their union and ultimately to harmony in the Universe. This fact is amply reflected in the symmetrical and regular form of the endless knot. The intertwining of lines reminds us how all phenomena are conjoined and yoked together as a closed cycles of cause and effect. Thus the whole composition is a pattern that is closed on in itself with no gaps, leading to representational form of great simplicity and fully balanced harmony. Since all phenomena are interrelated, the placing of the endless knot on a gift or greeting card is understood to establish an auspicious connection between the giver and the recipient. At the same time, the recipient is goaded to righteous karma, being reminded that future positive effects have their roots in the causes of the present. This is because the knot represents a connection, a link with our fates, binding us to our karmic destiny. Not surprisingly, this is one of the most favorite symbols of Tibetan Buddhism, and often occurs independently on its own. Since the knot has no beginning or end it also symbolizes the infinite wisdom of the Buddha. • As a personal journey of transformation continues to unfold, this “spinning wheel” that sits in our loft, takes on a whole new meaning as today for the first time I became a silent warrior… In the days of old, we spun sheep’s wool into yarn / to knit and weave for warmth and socks to darn Today, yarns are tales told with deceptive pride / as arrogant greed leads to superiority’s confide Threats full of fear with angry, envious undertones / as regretful voices of ego make sorrowful groans No feelings of inferiority as the truth rings in my ears / as the serenity and silence of light soon appears A benevolent nature to observe becomes a deep strength / as my voice remains silent with the lights’ wavelength A strategy of peace and a nonviolent stance / frustrates the angry opponent in this loving dance Guilt overtakes him, as I spin hopes’ energetic light / as a silent warrior of compassion, I will win this fight. tkrosevear 3/23/2009 The Buddha was the one who turned the wheel of dharma or ‘wheel of law’, in Tibetan tradition it is translated as the ‘wheel of transformation’. The wheels motion is a metaphor for the rapid spiritual change engendered by the teachings of Buddha. The wheel also represents the endless cycle of rebirth or samsara (sanskrit). Interestingly enough, another auspicious symbol of Buddhism – the hub symbolizing moral discipline, which stabilizes the mind and the spokes (usually 8) represent wisdom which is applied to defeat ignorance. The rim represents training in concentration, which holds everything else together. Dharma, literally translated means ‘that which upholds or supports’, while in Buddhist translations it means “higher truth” and/or “the ultimate reality of universe”. / The “WHEEL” in general, is one of the supreme symbols of cosmic momentum – the force that drives the planets and the stars – and of ceaseless change and repitition. Within all cultures, practices and beliefs this symbol is linked to the cycles of manifestation, birth, death and rebirth, the Zodiac, time and human destiny. Spinning Wheel

  • My Website Bless the Broken Road I set out on a narrow way, many years ago / Hoping I would find true love along the broken road / But I got lost a time or two / Wiped my brow and kept pushing through / I couldn’t see how every sign pointed straight to you Every long lost dream led me to where you are / Others who broke my heart, they were like northern stars / Pointing me on my way into your loving arms / This much I know is true That God blessed the broken road / That led me straight to you / Yes He did I think about the years I spent, just passing through / I’d like to have the time I lost, and give it back to you / But you just smile and take my hand / You’ve been there, you understand / It’s all part of a grander plan that is coming true Every long lost dream led me to where you are / Others who broke my heart, they were like northern stars / Pointing me on my way into your loving arms / This much I know is true That God blessed the broken road / That led me straight to you But now I’m just rolling home into my lover’s arms / This much I know is true That God blessed the broken road / That led me straight to you That God blessed the broken road / That led me straight to you Rascall Flats

  • In March of this year, my husband Lynn and I had the great pleasure of meeting, sharing and being blessed by Lindsay Wagner (deeksha blessing), by participating in an experiential workshop, she calls “Quiet the Mind, Open the Heart”. In addition, I was further blessed by being invited to her home for a private session for several hours, where she re-awakened my knowledge of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and also known by several other names. She also reminded me how our past experiences, with our inner file cabinets, color our perceptions of the world and our reactions to it. Like a particular incident that causes pain that we refuse to allow to heal, and even though we are very intelligent, our familial and/or societal upbringing, beliefs and responses can program us to react in ways that rob our joy in daily life. She helped me to explore my prior programming and shift my perspective beyond it, “to experience life as it is in the moment.” / One of the most profound gifts she gave me were the words upon this image, a new daily practice of mine ~ while touching just above the heart in a circular motion, I say each of these phrases three times, especially when experiencing any stress, but most often a daily mantra. It has had such a healing effect on regaining some power within my life, I thought I would share it here. / Image is a sketch of scales balanced, photographed and edited in photoshop7 with fractilius filter and text. / My hope and intention is that those that will benefit from this simple tool, will utilize and share it to heal themselves and others. / / Feelings
