Lake Bled, Bled, Slovenia, Feb 2006
Photograph taken on a cold sunny morning of January on the lake of Bled Slovenija. One or maybe just the most rapresentable place of my country. It is a glacial lake with an alp island dominated by a little church on it. A place like from a fairly tale.. a place full of history from the far iron era to these days. The island was always a place for spirituality. The lake is dominated by a wanderful castle on the highest rock above the lake. (You can see it on the pic) . I can only say that if you are searching for a breathtaking location on the sunny side of alps which have all.. well the lake of Bled is for sure a splendid choice. And if you love the nature.. only 20 minutes with car or a hour with a bike :) away there is another lake for the lovers of nature and the biggest natural reserve in Slovenija. © COPYRIGHT NOTICE / The work contained in my gallery is copyrighted ©2008 Robert Pavsic. The Lake of Bled is Slovenijan most popular turistic place. Is a glacial lake in the north west part of the country and placed on the sunny side of the Julan alps .. half of hour by car distant from Italy or Austria. There are a lot of things that marks Bled .. the most obvious is the Island with an old church from the 8th century a.c. the3 finaly look the church got in the 1698. But however there are signs of spiritual and religion activity on it far away in time to the era of stone ege. / The second atraction on the lake of Bled is the castle on the high rocks (you can see it in the pic right above the church) from where there is a wanderful view and many more .. it has around 1000 years. For sure is a location to visit if you are somewhere in the middle of Europe and you are looking for a place full of natural and cultural beauty.
Lake Bled, Slovenia
Probably the most photographed part of Slovenia. Lake Bled with its island and church are famous for their fairy-tale beauty. The present Church of the Assumption was built in the 17th century and the vicarage a hundred years later. But there are vestiges that date much earlier. That day we wanted to walk round this natural lake, a leisurely walk of some 6 hours. It was beautiful scenes all the way. I must have taken more than 200 photos on that hike alone. / . / Nikon D70 / Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G / Aperture: f/11.0 / Shutter: 1/125 sec / Focal Length: 28mm / ISO: 200 / . /

This is the natural island in the middle of Lake Bled in Slovenia. The island has several buildings, the main one being the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Mary, built in the 15th century, where weddings are held regularly. The church has a 52-metre tower and there is a stairway with 99 steps leading up to the building. This was taken with a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera. This shot was featured in the Rural around the Globe group and the Canon DSLR group, 2 weeks ago.

The view from the 1000 year Bled Castle overlooking Lake Bled, Slovenia. The Church of St Mary’s, on the only island in the lake, was reached by a traditional ‘Plenta” boat. Photo taken with Pentax optio 705z 1/100 10mm F/7.8 ISO 80 /
BEST VIEWED LARGE / A fairy tale place …. Bled castle high on the point , and, on a island a lovely church with a wishing bell to pull , and a lake so, so still , it was breathtaking. Our tourist chatter just died away as we were boated across the lake. / Later, I was inspired to forget any embarrassment and completed a TaiChiChiKung set by the lakeside. / Lake Bled was the “pick” of my European Tour and I thank our guide who ‘insisted’ that we go on the optional tour. A very special place. I would love to return armed with my new Nikon D90 – but am pleased with the result from my Pentax point and shoot. / Pentax Optio 750Z 1/100 F7.8 ISO80 /

This was taken high above Lake Bled, in Slovenia. Lake Bled is a glacial lake in the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia, where it adjoins the town of Bled. The area is a popular tourist destination. The lake is 2,120 m long and 1,380 m wide, with a maximum depth of 30.6 metres. The lake is situated in a picturesque environment, surrounded by mountains and forests. / The lake is also well known among rowers because it has very good conditions for the sport. It hosted the World Rowing Championships in 1966, 1979, and 1989. It will host the World Rowing Championship again in 2011. I used a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera and 18-55mm lens.

This is the restaurant on the top of the Bled Castle at Bled in Slovenia. Bled Castle is a castle built on top of a 130 metre cliff overlooking lake Bled, located in Bled, Slovenia. It is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Slovenia, second only to Postojna Cave. The castle was first mentioned in 1004, which makes it one of the oldest in Slovenia. The oldest part of the castle is the romanesque tower. In the Middle Ages more towers were built and the fortifications were improved. Other buildings were constructed in the Baroque period. The buildings are arranged around two courtyards, which are connected with a staircase. There is a chapel on the upper courtyard, which was built in the 16th century, and renovated around 1700, when it was also painted with illusionist frescoes. The castle also has a drawbridge over a moat. I used a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera and 18-55 mm lens.
