“Maize, a basic staple. Yet, glorious Indian Corn colours grace autumnal days. Each grain weaves a pattern in a tapestry meticulously designed. Piled upon each other on a farm stand, the rich colours of the corn ears make a delightful array of surprising beauty. / / I find inspiration in the simple elements of Nature by discovering, at a closer look, their elaborated forms, their patterns and intricacies, their sheer beauty. They teach me a lesson on survival, too. The colour in the Indian Corn grains is governed, each, by a different gene. The pigment may aid in the defense against diseases, hence, a wide array of colours in a single corn ear raises the chances of survival.” / / / Read more about Indian Corn in my written article: / / Indian Corn- Nature’s Kaleidoscope. / / / / Image © Carmen Mandel-Cesáreo / / / —-—-—-—-—-——- / Artist statement / My photographs are not enhanced; they represent the true nature and colours of the subjects as captured by the lens. “Quietly lying by her barn, this pretty ewe made me stop my bicycle ride to pay her a visit. In a placid cool afternoon, she greeted me with a sweet glance and a calm disposition. Her face was beautiful and her eyes melted my heart. Surrounding a sea of amber and golden hues, her long white eyelashes framed surprisingly bright eyes. / / Taking close-ups on her adorable face, a rainbow of colours and patterns unveiled: the iris wore fine lines defining a gradient of rich earth colours. Her eyes sparked like jewels. When I bade her good-bye, she quietly turned her head towards me in what I took as a kind invitation to visit her once again. “ / / / Image © Carmen Mandel-Cesáreo / / / —-—-—-—-— / Artist statement / My photographs are not enhanced; they represent the true nature and colours of the subjects as captured by the lens. Formal or posed portraits where the sitter was aware of the camera and of me and my intentions. In most of the pictures spoken instructions were given and collaboration between the subject and the photograph was paramount.
Though commend me on my color work… I sometimes like to take a stroll outside of my comfort zone, and play with a little black and white. This collection represents a few of my favorite black and white images. I hope you enjoy! Skip Hunt / Austin, Texas / skiphuntphotography.com
