We have just had 4 days of miserable and wet weather, this was taken from a moving car on the way to the airport this morning, my first sun rise! Oh and a little trial of my VR lens which i bought secondhand off ebay and is my Xmas present! This little church is in the middle of nowhere attached to a little finca. The nearest town, Los Montesinos is about 5km away. There are quite a few ruined fincas dotted around so I assume a few decades ago when this part of Spain was still true Spain, all the locals gathered at this little church rather than ride or walk into Los Montesinos. The Rio d’Algar, emerges from the mountain and flows down the mountain through a series of waterfalls, deep pools and shaded babbling shallow freezing water ways. A popular tourist attraction the Fonts d’Algar are a refreshing way to cool down from the August heat. Enhanced by psuedo HDR

Taken at the Fonts d’Algar, Callosa d’en Sarria, Costa Blanca Spain. These falls climb for several kilometres up the mountain, where they emerge from a spring. There are waterfalls and deep pools of freezing water which is really refreshing in the August heat. At the far side of the very top pool is this narrow channel where the spring starts and this young couple were stealing a kiss. Enhanced by psuedo HDR

A little dragonfly taken at the Fonts d’Algar, Costa Blanca, Spain I have reposted this as being black it showed little detail, and have tinkered with it as a psuedo HDR to show a little detail on the wings.

The Iris Flower The parts of an iris flower. Image / The iris style arm. . / The competition for pollinators is intense evolving in a habitat where numerous other species of flowering plants are blooming at the same time. Irises have developed a highly specialized flower. The blossoms are very large and colorful. the sepals (sometimes called “falls”) are recurved in such a manner to provide a landing pad for bumblebees. The petals (sometimes called “standards”) are upright and colorful, adding to the overall attractiveness of the flower to bumblebees. The striking and colorful veining on the sepals directs bumblebees down into a tight space between the sepal and style arm. The style arm is a highly modified pistil that connects the stigmatic lip to the ovary. While crawling down toward the nectar glands, pollen rubs off the back of the pollinator and attaches to the sticky stigmatic lip. Moving ever forward, the bumblebees’ backs come in contact with the pollen-producing anthers on the stamen where they pick up additional pollen. Botanists believe that this relatively large and colorful modified pistil adds to the overall attractiveness of the blossom to bumblebees.

Mind you he shouted something at me in Spanish so I don’t thin he would be overly impressed if I tried again!! Taken at the Old Port in Javea (costa blanca Spain) on our first holiday there!
