  • Blacksmith
    by Joanne Bradley

    US$4.32–US$98.80

On the grounds of the Oka monastery, in Oka Quebec, is a blacksmith shop. On Saturday December 6th/08 while attending a Christmas craft fair, held in one of the barns, the public was invited to witness the blacksmith at work. / These artisans still use the tools of their forefathers. Today they produce various iron decorative objects such as candelabras and coffee tables in their shop in addition to the traditional work associated with rural life such as gates, agricultural tools, and horsehoes. It was a fascinating experience watching this young man demonstrate the skills needed for this ancient trade. Photoshop Elements used: Unsharp Mask

  • Hephaistos
    by Ivy Izzard

    US$19.95–US$106.40

Ἥφαιστος: the god of technology, blacksmiths, craftsmen, artisans, sculptors, metals, metallurgy, fire and volcanoes. To Hephaistos, Fumigation from Frankincense and Manna. Strong, mighty Hephaistos, bearing splendid light, unwearied fire, with flaming torrents bright : strong-handed, deathless, and of art divine, pure element, a portion of the world is thine : all-taming artist, all-diffusive power, ‘tis thine, supreme, all substance to devour : aither, sun, moon, and stars, light pure and clear, for these thy lucid parts [of fire] to men appear. To thee all dwellings, cities, tribes belong, diffused through mortal bodies, rich and strong. Hear, blessed power, to holy rites incline, and all propitious on the incense shine : suppress the rage of fire’s unwearied frame, and still preserve our nature’s vital flame. / Orphic Hymn 66 to Hephaestus (trans. Taylor) (Greek hymns C3rd B.C. to 2nd A.D.) Photo reference by armathor-stock More Olympians / / / /

  • Dont Touch Anything
    by Ben Pacificar

    US$4.32–US$98.80

Location: Historical Coloma in Placerville California (Gold Rush Town) / Technique: HDR (High Dynamic Range) / Workflow: 6+ Raws – Matix – Finalized in Cs4 / Equip: 5D OG Featured in Groups: / “Dilapidated Buildings” – April 20, 2009 / “Rustic” – May 2, 2009 BENS SPECIAL NOTE: / My Love for Photography is no secret for the folks that know me personally and for all the special folks that I have had the pleasure of meeting here on R&B. My Love for HDR has gone even deeper than any style of shooting I have ever done. But I was recently informed by a good friend that someone has literally renamed the art of HDR (NAME + Dynamic Range) simply because he added a few steps and totally disregarded the true pioneers of HDR. I believe we should respect the artists of the past as they are the reason we are in love with Photography today. Please do not take offense to this “Special Note” as I am merely stating my opinion in this matter. I’am neither a troublemaker nor an instigator, I just get “Urked” by People that dont have the common decency to respect our fore fathers in the art and think its okay to rename a technique. For the record this person does some awesome HDR work and has not done me wrong in any way. I’am simply bothered by people that know how good they are but dont give credit to the true legends of our art.

  • Sparks of hot molten steel are ejected as Weston-super-Mare’s blacksmith Nathan Bennett re-forms a freshly heated strip of iron. Nathan was happy for me to stand at a safe distance while I worked hard to click in synchrony with his hammer strikes. In the film era this would have been a much more expensive exercise, for sure! I’ve had lots of great feedback from this photo (in other places as well as on RedBubble) and I was pleased to give Nathan a RedBubble-laminated print as a thank-you gift. / . / / .

  • Maxwell's Silver Hammer #2
    by Dennis Gay

    US$6.65–US$152.00

THE SUBJECT: / I doubt if the man’s name is Maxwell so forgive the title. I’m an old Beatles fan. / This hard working Smithy is one of a team of five blacksmiths making all the bits ‘n’ pieces for a large stainless steel and copper memorial sculpture for the bushfire victims in Victoria. Here he is making one of the many stainless steel gumnuts required for the work. / Have a close look at the face of the hammer. THE LOCATION: / Photographed at the Blacksmith’s forge during the 2009 Timbertown birthday celebrations at Wauchope, NSW, Australia on a great autumn day. THE MAKING of ‘Maxwell’s Silver Hammer #2’: / There was a lot of hammering of red hot metal happening at the anvils but I spent more time with this bloke as he was in a better position than the others in regard to background and lighting and because he was working on smaller objects he was closer to his work. / Even so I still had to use my pop-up flash at half power for a touch of fill and to help knock out the background. / Fuji S9600: RAW, 1/50sec @ f/3.8, ISO80, Auto focus, Hand held. / Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3. Visit the Portraits collection in my BubbleSite Gallery for more posing people pictures. UPDATE: 30-03-09 / This hard working Smithy has been featured in the Candid Photography Group. • Blacksmith 1851
    by Anne van Alkemade

    US$3.99–US$91.20

You’re riding along the muddy road to Ballarat and your horse has thrown a shoe. The blacksmith on the corner is open for business, you can see smoke coming from the chimney of his forge next door to the cottage. It all looks very inviting. / The Blacksmith Cottage and Forge are features of the main street of Bacchus Marsh. It’s open most weekends – with the new wheelwright shed at the rear officially opened today (20/05/07). A rather nice piece of local history lovingly maintained by local volunteers.

  • On the Smithy's Wall #2
    by Dennis Gay

    US$6.65–US$152.00

THE SUBJECT: / Rusting old tools from a bygone age hanging on a blacksmith’s wall bathed in a golden afternoon light. / Not only are these tools not used any more but there are fewer and fewer people who know what they were used for. THE LOCATION: / This Still Life was photographed at Timbertown, an historic theme park at Wauchope, west of Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia, on a lightly overcast summer day. THE MAKING of ‘On the Smithy’s Wall #2’: / The shot was made using natural light and a longish exposure from inside the Blacksmith’s shop with low diffused light washing in from the open double door. Another example of how I photograph the light and not just the subject so I can create a mood shot not a snapshot. / This is a close-up crop made from the original “On the Smithy’s Wall #1”, suggested by a fellow camera club member that you can see here if you wish. / Fuji S9600: RAW, Manual settings of f/ 8 @ 1.5sec, ISO80, Tripod, Timer. / S7RAW & Photoshop CS. • Blacksmiths Breakwall NSW
    by Bev Woodman

    US$3.99–US$91.20

A lone seagull enjoys the view from Blacksmiths Breakwall with one of the many coal ships that dot the Newcastle horizon on the left and Moon Island on the right. In the centre the waves break gentley across the bar, the entrace to the Swansea Channel and Lake Macquarie. So serene, so peaceful. /

  • This image was taken from the Blacksmiths Breakwall at the mouth of the Swansea Channel and the entrance to Lake Macquarie NSW Australia. This is a unique spot to capture images of the waves as they break across the bar and you can almost reach out and touch them as they crash in front of you. This one I chose to shoot from the rear, giving the effect that you are on the wave. Shot with the Nikon D80, 55-200 mm Nikon VR lens, Shutter 1/250, Aperture F10, Focal length 100 mm, ISO 180. / /

  • Lucky Horseshoes
    by Marilyn Harris

    US$4.09–US$93.48

Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Lucky Horseshoes Couldn’t resist this shot of these horseshoes all in a line. Lovingly assembled Blacksmith’s Shed at the Krohmann - / Ackermann residence, Hill End, Rural New South Wales. Hill End is a well-preserved goldmining ghost town which is now an important historic site. Alluvial gold was discovered at Hill End (then known as Bald Hill) in 1851 and there were were 150 miners on the site within a month. By the early 1860s Hill End had a population of some 2000 people.

  • Smithy
    by Murray Swift

    US$5.49–US$125.40

Blacksmith at Salamanca Markets Hobart Tasmania. Best viewed larger.

  • I’m lucky to be off work this week so today I thought I’d take the opportunity while the sun was out to venture back to Blacksmith’s breakwall. The scene here today was much quieter than my previous visit and the tide was almost out. This resulted in smaller waves however the water colour and the small waves I captured rewarded me for my efforts in walking out there. This image I termed “Crystal Roll” simply because of its colour and clarity. Taken with the Nikon D80, 55-200 mm lens, shutter speed 1/250, Aperture F10, focal length 200 mm on Landscape Exposure mode, ISO 200. / /

  • This area of rock is just alongside the previous one I posted on the northern end of Redhead Beach NSW Australia. I have always been interested in rocks and rock formations. I have a brother who is a geologist and my father was a gold prospector, another brother still is. I was always up a creek or in the bush as a child and Dad would often bring home petrified rock or unusual shaped rocks for the garden or fernery … so I guess I inherited a love of unusual or beautiful rock colours. I have other sandstone examples that can be seen on my Bubblesite gallery here / /
