photo of original work, july 2008. charcoal on paper / This venus is both connected and disconnected to her surroundings, she is part of her landscape and the creatures that inhabit it, and yet she gazes off away beyond the page into her own inner world. Her arms shield herself and again lead inwards. / In Australia the blackberry is an introduced species- a weed. The fox is also introduced and is responsible for the endangerment of many native species. / The fox is not a bad animal, it is just in the wrong place- an animal weed. foxes also enjoy having the blackberry in their environment, it provides protection, travel corridors and homes. / Both the blackberry and fox are now a part of this country, an introduced species / that have integrated into the environment, and yet still do not belong.
