The day was overcast and cloudy. Boy, are we lucky that it didn’t pour! First up, Hien and I headed to Sunbury where the groom’s place is before heading back to East Melbourne for the bride. The ceremony and reception were held in Olympic Park. Thanks to Hien for the experience, my first ever wedding shoot! I still struggle at times with unfamiliar environment and/or lightings. Hold on tight for Hien’s (for those who knows him) shots later on (i’m sure he’ll post his here too)! =P / Hien’s Post

Presenting Philip Rogan
by Juilee PryorJuilee Pryor does 10 Questions with Philp Rogan / ...
Juilee Pryor does 10 Questions with Philp Rogan • Do you remember when you got your first camera? Yes. And no. It was borrowed so it was a Kodak 126, sqaure negs camera that belonged to my parents. Took some awful photos with it. My first proper camera was a Fujica something or other SLR I bought for getting into a communications course. I think, God memory is rusty on that one. • What attracts you more… the science of photography or the art? Definitely the art. I could not really give a toss for the science though I miss film and the magic it evoked as you pulled out the negs from the wash or saw a print reaveal itself. Messy as it was it was science in a raw form. The art is what makes an image through the use of science. • How do you prefer your work to be seen, in exhibition, in a book or magazine or / on a computer screen? I would prefer an exhibition methinks, I like being published which has happened a few times either because it was a job to be published or through a competition or something. That said I am loving the fact that people all over the world can see my photos on redbubble and the numbers are a hell of a lot more than a static exhibition, I also get feedback! • As a photographer, do you find that you ‘see’ photographically all the time? Yes. I sometimes, well often see it as a curse. A curse because you either drag a camera around with you all the time, lament that you did not bring the camera with you, big or small, or miss the opportunity with or without the camera. I also make family outings move slowly….stop, start, stop again .. • What goes through your mind at the moment you release the shutter? Sometimes pleasure; like I got it or feeling somewhat mischievous as I know its going to be funny. Or some doubt let’s try and get another one off, that was nearly it. Also lines and spaces and faces and some more abstract thoughts like why I’m taking the picture and what it’s layers might be if any or just “that looks great. • Do you feel that creative power makes you a receptor for something special? Hmm. God this is the sort of question that with some answers you could sound like a right wanker. No, yes not really. I think that I balance anything special in relation to creativity with a huge amount of procrastination and missed possibilities so therefore I might receive something special but I squander it in wasted time. • Have you ever tried to explain that creative urge to others? Sure. They usually get it. • How do you see social documentary photography? I love it. I think it should be more and more relevant to today but that it has been drowned in the sea of images that the world is, well drowning in. The forums for this type of work are in many ways less well defined than they used to be with even newspapers missing this work to a large degree. Not all papers of course, some do a better job than others, like El Pais here in Spain is pretty good. Better picture Editors are needed. • Still photography or moving image….. what do you prefer and why? Still photography by far. Because it’s a moment, just that. One frozen single moment so even if the moving image is just 10 seconds it’s an infinite number of those frozen moments and I prefer the simplicity of one. • What is more powerful…. the camera or the gun? I would say it depends what you want to do. If I was in a showdown I’d prefer to have the gun. Politically, there is so much spin these days and so many claims that images can be totally altered that photography has lost some of the veracity that people accepted before. Images are still incredibly powerful and one image can change something significant in the world but one bullet can kill one significant person. The only way to win this debate is that bullets kill and that’s it and with a camera you can not only kill somebody you can also create beauty and really create love in people so with that clumsily constructed point – the camera is more powerful except in a showdown. / / / / /

New Group: Selective Colring
by cheerishablesHello everybody, I would like to introduce the new group: Selective coloring. http://www.redbubble.com/people/cheerishables/art/81401-...
Hello everybody, I would like to introduce the new group: Selective coloring. http://www.redbubble.com/people/cheerishables/art/81401-5-party-girl Color is a very impactful and potent factor in photography when it comes to grabbing attention or even evoking emotion. When the color is an accent, it is even more powerful, drawing your eye to key elements within your image. Often times, images take on a vintage style, but the color accents add even more interest than complete black and white, sepia toned images. I would like to kindly invite those of you who use and enjoy selective coloring in your own photographs. If you would like to also share techniques and ideas, that would be wonderful to. You can sign up and view the complete description and guidelines here: http://www.redbubble.com/groups/selective-coloring.
