Praise, my little friend has gone to be forever with the Lord. Today I received a call from Joshua our medical officer to inform me that praise died this morning. She was a special child, although all children are special. I will miss her so much as I formed a special bond with her. With tears flowing from my eyes I write to ask all of you my friends to please pray for her parents and her only surviving brother James. I feel very sad, but I must continue to carry on the work, God has called me to do. There are many Like Praise who urgently need our Love and support. Thank you all precious friends for your Love and encouragement. You are true friends, and I thank God for ALL of you. This is why I am committed and totally dedicated to reaching many with Gods message of Salvation, and also to bless them with Tools and means to live healthy lives and to go to school. little Praise no longer walks with crippled legs adn she no more feels pain. She is with Jesus now and is happy. I have just watched a short video clip of her singing with the other children their Favorite Sunday School song, “JESUS LOVES ME”. Please pray for me that God will indeed make 2009 the year that Philadelphia Mission will have abundant tools and finance to reach all in the isolated Villages of Nigeria with help. Your Friend. Trevor. Matthew 19:14 Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. Donate some of your art and save a child’s life! This is written from my mission notes dated 21-28th December 2006. -Thursday 21st December 2006, 7.12am+. We start our long slow journey to Tungga/Zuga Village. This is my first Christmas where I have been separated from my precious wife and children. I wish i was home right now, but Because of the needs of the people of the village, I agreed to stay and miss my return flight home and spend Christmas with the people in this village. Saturday 23rd December 2006 10:22Pm. Arrived in Tunga/Zuga Village this afternoon at 3:30pm. I forgot just how remote these villages are. We passed through many small villages on the way, and God stuck in dirt roads three times. Our old landcruser is just not as good as it used to be. There was much celebration when the villagers saw us coming. most of those able to work were in the Fields and small gardens. They heard our vehicle from a long distance away and were so excited as none knew we were coming. As We drove along the dirt track into the village, little small faces peeped from within the compound, and from behind trees and doors. I could see they all remembered me from my first visit here in April 2006. the others came running from the fields as the word got around that Papa Trevor others had arrived. This time we bought live chickens and a goat from the main big village 43 miles away. Last time we came I was heartbroken to see them kill the few chickens they had and feed us like we were kings. There is so much Love here among the Kambari tribe. I made sure this time they would remember this Christmas for a long time. This evening we had a Crusade in the village. Many came from other villages including the Fulani people, who are Muslims, and never came to the Village before. There Elders from the fulani received Jesus as Lord, and a young child was brought to us, very ill from A burning fever. AS I held the boy in my arms , I felt so inadequate. It seemed he was dead. But on closer inspection under our vehicle headlights, I saw his little chest move. As I write this i am very sad and very tired. But must keep my diary up to date. AS Evangelist John was praying in the background, I held the child in my arms, and prayed also. It was Joshua our Missionary pastor who I noticed pointing towards me and the boy. As I looked at the boys face, I saw there was no more Life inside his broken and sick body. Gone to be with God. I could not help crying out loud and deep inside me I was a kind of upset with God for not allowing the child to live and be healed. but I have learned by now, that God has his way of being merciful. He must have seen it as kinder to take the child home. What puzzled me was that his Mother just sat on the ground and looked unaffected by the lose of her son. The Father was just staring at his son. I learned just a few minutes ago before starting writing my update, that this was their last son, and three had died preciously. Now only a Daughter survived. I ask myself is it possible that they are so used to death here ? Sunday 24th December 2006 23:15pm. This morning at 7:50am, I buried the young boy who died in my arms last night. I preached on Eternal life with God and how the child who I new now was called Daniel, was with God and only his sick and lifeless body was here to bury. As I lowered him into the small hole that his father and Chief dug with Hoes, I noticed now tat his mothers face was wet with tears, yet no noise of crying. I new now now one here gets used to death. Our team arranged with the elder woman in the village to prepare Christmas day food and use the little what we had to make it a happy day for the children. I went about observing and noting the different activities. So many kids here are sick. One little girl was so badly disabled by twisted and bowed hips and legs that she could hardly walk at all. So sad to see a child like this. And even worse to know this child could be spared from the suffering if only the village could grow enough good quality food. Rickets is truly a wicket disease. I observe a lot of young children within the village compound, being cared for by old woman and a few older children. Mums and dads are mostly out trying to tend the poor harvest fields. Alone outside the hut i saw a young girl about 8 years old, trying to cook something on a open fire. Just three large stones, some firewood and a big pot sitting on top of the stones, and the fire underneath. AS I walked closer, It turned my stomach to see three rats and about 7 dead mice. I walked away and called Joshua from a distance. I asked him a question, hoping the answer I had formed in my head was wrong. Do these people eat Rats and Mice?. Yes was his reply. he explained that when they sometimes burn the fields after harvest or to burn overgrowth, the rodents run away and the children in most cases catch and kill them, then they are used as meat protein. I was sickened at just the thought of eating a rat. But here there is little food. Bloated and swollen bellies, thin legs and brown hair is evident of chronic malnutrition. Time for bed. God I thank you for your strength and Grace to do this work. I miss my family much and think of what they would be doing at home now. Monday -Christians day 9:55pm. I was awake most of the night waiting for a sound or something to let me know it was time to get up. Just the sound of grasshopper and other bush insects. With no electricity, meaning no light or fan and the temp according to my smart watch is 77 degrees, at 4:42am, its sure hot her in this hut. Silence was broken by several villagers coughing in the surrounding huts. I wind up my torch and venture outside. Its still to dark to Photographs or videotape anything. This is the best time of day here, when you are up early and can witness nature and the sunrise. No Shower, running water or Flushing toilet, This is very uncomfortable, but I find Gods love and compassion that he has sown in my heart for these people greater than any hardships or discomforts. 11am we had a Christmas Day Service. It amazed me to see all the villagers and many from other villages come and assemble outside the village under the big tree. I preached for almost an hour on the greatest gift ever given in the world. Jesus. After Prayers and ministering to the sick, we sat with several elders and Chiefs within the area. We handed out Clothing. many here wear tattered cloths and some with none. Most of the time I watched children just do what they would do each day. Fetch water from the river, grind food, Sweep the village compound and older children with younger ones tied to their backs. Several Children including a child called Grace were coughing a lot. There is something about Grace that stands out from other children. All the children are beautiful, but little Grace is so friendly, even though she cannot understand a word I speak except a few words I learned of Hausa language. Today I reached out to pick her up and hold her and she just held onto me like a koala bear. She looked straight into my eyes and I know that God touched my heart through this child called Grace. When I first saw her last April, She was just as beautiful, but fearful and shy. Joshua told me her older brother died last year in August 2005 from Intestinal worms. No Christmas presents given here. Children do not have any toys or things to play with. What the villagers did not know was I had managed to buy a bale of clothing in Abuja when I arrived in Nigeria. It was well covered in the back of the vehicle. I also with the help of some kind friends purchased Bibles in The Hausa Language. It was 4:pm and the woman had been cooking all morning and afternoon. We bought 14 chickens and a goat. News travelled fast that we are having what they call big Feed. By 6pm we gathered all the children and sat them down in two big circles. They / were the first to eat. God, this is so wonderful to see all the children eating good food for once, even if it was just for one day. Then the parents and older folk eat. After we sat and listened to stories and I learned so much about them and little Grace was playing touch and run games with me. She would touch my hand or arm and then try and run away, although she could not run as she was learning to walk without falling. AS It’s not close to bedtime, my heart and thoughts are with Audrey and my children back home in London. Tomorrow we leave here to head back to Mission centre in kujama. Two days of hard bumpy dirt tracks and holes the size of a swimming pool. Then three more days before I head to Abuja and Fly home. But while I am here I must continue to reach the poor and lost. Have two more preaching sessions and lots of counseling. This was taken from my Diary notes and journal during Christmas 2006 in Tunga/Zuga village in 2006. I hope it will move to to pray for these precious people, Missionaries and be thankful to God this Christmas for your family. Hope you find it interesting. AS I read my notes, it was as If I was reliving it all again. Pray for me and the work I and the team do in helping these people. And in the New year set your heart towards helping them by holding Fund-raising events and other events to raise the money for the tractor and Machinery that will save so many lives and stop many diseases. The Lord lead you into all his blessings. Evangelist Trevor.
