This was taken in Thailand at a tourist park where they had elephants performing tricks. I find this photo haunting because the elephant is looking right at the camera. I have very mixed feelings about what the animal might be thinking.
I’d set out to find the Tate Modern thinking it was only a short walk from the station, little did i know the walk was much longer & along slightly stingy alleyways. Even as i kept looking over my shoulder I couldnt help but want to capture the moment. London (c) REO 2007
The underground LRT station beneath the downtown core of Edmonton, Alberta. This is what it looks like on a typical Sunday morning. Deserted. It’s a great place to sit and listen to the city from below her streets.
trains and stuff…. love trains even when they don’t actually work
This lovely old steam train took us on a journey back in time, to our childhood and memories of standing on the overhead bridge when the train went underneath, so that we would be bathed in the steam and the smell of the train, then laughing all the way home. / I used my Kodak Camera Z 8612IS on a general setting then treated it in photoshop. I was so lucky that these lovely flowers bloomed beside the tracks to add a touch of colour. I thought the Black and white treatment made it llok striking against the colour border. Thanks for visiting, cheers- Valerie
Walking through the flood plains that have not seen water for many years, the grass is as long as your knees and you can hear it crunch under your feet and feel it swaying as you brush through it. The night is drawing ever closer as the day nears its end. The clouds race away from the sun and they catch the pigment of it as they do, showering the sky in red and orange and turning structures of the land into dark shadows of their former, daylight selves. The valley at this time of evening is showered in red, the flood plains coming alive with the blood of life that the sun presents. A sight seldom seen, now forever captured. You know you’re a photographer at heart when you are willing to stop your car, with a car behind you, on a railroad track to get a shot!! Kids don’t try this at home! PLACED IN TOP TEN IN A CHALLENGE / “TRAINS”—-BLACK & WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY GROUP / This impressive beautifully restored engine chugged its way through town last June (2008)..I worked with it a little bit in photoshop… From Canadian Pacific Railway: “The CP Empress CP’s 2816 is a class H1b Hudson type locomotive built by Montreal Locomotive Works in December 1930. The CP Empress is now the only surviving H1b Hudson and is one of only a handful of preserved and operating CPR steam locomotives in North America. Initially the locomotive ran westward out of Winnipeg to Calgary and eastward to Fort William, Ontario (now part of Thunder Bay). Locomotive 2816 then moved into service on the Windsor-to-Quebec City corridor. Its last assignment was at the front of a Montreal-Rigaud commuter train, making its final revenue run on May 26, 1960. Having logged more than two million miles in active service, 2816’s fires were extinguished. / Today, after a complete three-year rebuild, 2816 is restored to the original specifications with external details from the 1940/50s.”

Cliche, but I liked the perspective. / Like all of the photos taken in London involving transport, I had to wait for some time before there were few people in the shot. Canon EOS 40D / 10mm, F/3.5, 1/30sec, ISO-400 / Tripod: NO, Flash: NO

A steam locomotive getting ready to start it journey from the station at Bridgnorth, part of the Severn Valley Railway in Shropshire. A real step back in time, with a wonderful pub attached serving real ale. Converted into a pinhole black and white Best viewed large

This was constructed from: - a photo of myself / - lots of filters, / - a couple of textures my own and by Sirius SDZ / - an embellishment (tree with blossoms) from my embellishment kit (see) / - a little bit of drawing in Corel Painter™ The image was inspired by the song ‘Drops of Jupiter’ by Train, which has always been one of my favourites and one of the songs I’ve identified myself with. Here are the lyrics: Now that she’s back in the atmosphere / With drops of Jupiter in her hair, hey / She acts like summer and walks like rain / Reminds me that there’s a time to change, hey / Since the return from her stay on the moon / She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey, hey But tell me, did you sail across the sun? / Did you make it to the Milky Way / To see the lights all faded / And that heaven is overrated? Tell me, did you fall for a shooting star? / One without a permanent scar / And then you missed me / While you were looking for yourself out there? / / Now that she’s back from that soul vacation / Tracing her way through the constellation, hey / She checks out Mozart while she does Tae-Bo / Reminds me that there’s room to grow, hey / / Now that she’s back in the atmosphere / I’m afraid that she might think of me as / Plain ol’ Jane told a story about a man / Who was too afraid to fly so he never did land / / But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet? / Did you finally get the chance / To dance along the light of day / And head back to the Milky Way? And tell me, did Venus blow your mind? / Was it everything you wanted to find? / And then you missed me / While you were looking for yourself out there / / Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken / Your best friend always sticking up for you / Even when I know you’re wrong? Can you imagine no first dance, freeze-dried romance / Five-hour phone conversation / The best soy latte that you ever had, and me? / / But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet? / Did you finally get the chance / To dance along the light of day / And head back toward the Milky Way? / / But tell me, did you sail across the sun? / Did you make it to the Milky Way / To see the lights all faded / And that heaven is overrated? And tell me, did you fall for a shooting star? / One without a permanent scar / And then you missed me / While you were looking for yourself? And did you finally get the chance / To dance along the light of day? / And did you fall for a shooting star? / Fall for a shooting star? / And now you’re lonely looking for yourself out there Check out my journal entry for more info.
