P/S Retouched by Ange. Digital photograph shot by Jerry Kang in Surry Hills, Sydney (2007). Model: J.Y. I retouched the eyes (creating deepset cat eyed effect), enhanced lips, defined eyebrows, enhanced cheekbones, airbrushed face & lengthened body. Extended foreground of shot by retouching (the existing foreground) as it was taken tightly cropped to the foot. Added b/w desaturated tone & curve adjustment. Original before shot image below.

An abandoned Victorian Italianate style house (c.1880-90) in Annandale, an inner city suburb of Sydney. Sitting proudly in a corner position of this hip and happening suburb, it had once been loved and cared for – if you look closely, you can see that one of the previous owners, at some stage, installed an alarm – a measure sure to deter possible intruders. Today, some of the lacework is missing, the fence posts have deteriorated, the concrete probably has cancer, the garden is full of weeds, steps to the front door are missing…will nobody love it anymore?

Every afternoon on my way home from work I would see that lamp post coupled with the Harbour Bridge and I’d think to myself “That would make for a great shot”. After many months of telling myself that I have to take that shot I finally got off my behind and did just that. I am really happy with what I got. Here are a few categories to take a look at: /

I missed a fantastic sunset, and an incredibly intense lightning storm. By the time I got to my chosen vantage point, I was left with the remnants of both. © Sara Lamond 2007. I love shooting at night, and generally am out alone when I’m shooting – it’s when I produce my best work (in my mind anyway). / / This is one of my favorite places in the city. You can sit here alone for hours, traffic streaming past, only the occasional pedestrian, while hundreds, or even thousands of people are just a few feet below. It’s both a quiet spot to find refuge, and a place that symbolizes the loneliness and isolation that can be experienced in a city of millions. © Sara Lamond 2007.
