Antelope Canyon is the most-visited and most-photographed slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is located on Navajo land near Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon formed over the course of millions of years by erosion of the Navajo Sandstone, primarily due to flash flooding and secondarily due to wind erosion. Rainwater (especially during monsoon season) runs into the wash that Antelope Canyon is part of, picking up speed and sand as it rushes through the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways are eroded away, making the corridors wider and smoothing hard edges in such a way as to form characteristic ‘flowing’ shapes in the rock. Upper Antelope Canyon, called Tse bighanilini, “the place where water runs through rocks” by the Navajo, is the most frequently visited by tourists, due to two considerations. First, its entrance and entire length are at ground level, requiring no climbing. Second, beams (shafts of direct sunlight radiating down from openings in the top of the canyon) are much more common in Upper than in Lower. Beams occur most often in the summer months, as they require the sun to be high in the sky. In the same series: / / /

Taken on the drive to Table Cape this morning, it was overcast on and off today so when I saw the heavens open up I just had to risk life and limb (windy Tassie roads are a health hazard to a photographer!) to capture the moment. Landscapes Black and White Artistic Creations Sisters Beach Series

This photo was taken from Wild Horse Mountain facing towards Mt Beerwah, one of the Glasshouse Mountains. Beerwah, according to local Aboriginal legend, is the pregnant mother of this family of mountains. If you look at the left-hand side of the mountain you should be able to see the shape of a reclining pregnant woman.

A winter panorama shot of the valley Valldal on the west coast of Norway, taken during the christmas holiday. Stitched together of 15 pictures. Post-processing: / Stitched some pictures together, obviously. Fixed the contrast with curves, added a lighter curve only on the lower part as the valley was pretty dark, and the mountain tops really light. Added two black and white layers set to hard light (140%), mainly on the sky and the mountain tops.

Early mornings are a quiet time of day to enjoy the silence and view the beauty of a misty field. I decided to try this in black and white and I think it works for this shot. The trees enveloped by the mist stand out more than the ones behind them which I thought unusual. Comments are always welcome.
