Looking down across the theatre stage from the seats where many a Roman would have been cheering and laughing, and perhaps even crying at the performances that would have been something to witness! /

I usually am a huge fan of bright and vivid colours (yes, I’m in that group too… LOL!), but during the last weeks, I have been uploading a lot of black and white as well as neutral photos. I felt a bit deprived of the energizing boost I always get from colours, so I decided to explore a style which is new for me: Pop Art . The shoe is my first vector work. I found that while it is not a complex process, it is quite time-consuming. To accomplish this I used the pen tool in Photoshop to select areas of colour, and filled them with the appropriate colour each on their own layer. This was made from a photograph where I was standing in the shoes, see Social Climber , so I had to add the parts of the straps and sole that were hidden by my foot in the photo. Ten hours and 35 layers layer, the vector shoe on a transparent background was completed. For this Pop Art design, I created a large canvas filled it with black, and added four copies of the vector shoe on four layers. Played with hue/saturation and added coloured backgrounds. That’s it! This work is also available as a t-shirt in my other portfolio Featured in the Live, Love, Dream group on February 20, 2009
This was taken in Turin, Italy, in May 2007. I’ve cropped the image square and changed it to black and white. We didn’t go searching for this old ampitheatre, we were just walking around the streets of Turin seeing what we could find and we stumbled across this at the end of a normal street. It was a blisteringly hot day and we managed to get some shade for a while under some arches at the back of the theatre, where the photo was taken.
These are the North Steps of El Castillo, the temple to Kukulcan at Chichen Itza. The bottom stairs are flanked by carvings of plumed serpents. On the spring and autumn equinox, shadows along the sides of the steps make the serpents appear to climb down the pyramid. If you can’t arrive on those days, the nightly light show recreates this as well (so I’ve heard). The Maya were obsessed with calendars and cosmology and incorporated it into their buildings. There are 91 steps on each side of the pyramid. These add up to 364 with the final step being the top level which makes a total of 365, the number of days in the year.
Another shot of El Castillo, the main temple at Chichen Itza. Looking at sights like these I can’t help to think of the lost culture, the people who built these and buildings and lived in the world that surrounded them. Make no mistake that the descendants of the Maya still live in the Yucatan and refer to themselves as Maya. Chichen Itza is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
