Remembering my Oma’s soul
The title pretty much explains this one….
This is a mod I made of my daughter using Photoshop CS2.
Betty “Be-Bop” Carter (Born: May 16, 1929 – Reborn: September 26, 1998) was an American jazz icon who was renowned for her improvisational technique and idiosyncratic vocal style. Carmen McRae once claimed that “there’s really only one jazz singer – only one: Betty Carter.” Carter was born Lillie Mae Jones in Flint, Michigan and grew up in Detroit, where her father led a church choir. She studied piano at the Detroit Conservatory. She won a talent contest and became a regular on the local club circuit, singing and playing piano. When she was 16, she sang with Charlie Parker, and she later performed with Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis. I had the pleasure of meeting Betty in her friend’s apartment in Detroit.. I presented her an original portrait of herself that she was fond of. That was a very happy moment in my life. 18×24 Primacolor Pencil on Off-white Archival Paper. Upon the importance of a “rite” (tea, as the japaneese ceremony),in the life of the Artist! / Some Artists, had a rite before they spend themselves into creating! / Some had a rite after they had finished their piece of work! / Some as they are actually creating! / It can be Music or something else, which helps them into the process of releasing what their guts need to release ! / Tea can bring a certain peace to the “creator,” as it might help to canalize the energy needed to achieve THE ULTIMATE PIECE! / Many have used alcohol, or drugs! / Some have created, animated by the Love of GOD or led by what they call a “third entity” ! / And I believe that for most Artistson top of all these reasons above named,, heartaches, difficulties, trials, challenges of life’s journey are what causes the ARTIST TO CREATE OUT OF HIS GUTS! / To ” vomit” what the body, the soul, the mind and the spirit have accumulated from years of labour! Models are: / Lacey the Chihuahua and the incomparable / James Birkbeck Winner of the Pets Resembling People Challenge in the Mood and Ambience Group, November 2009 Lacey was a rescue Chi… we got her as a “senior” with a sketchy history, most likely, she was used for breeding and discarded when she got too old. She was not socialized at all and for the first four to six months, we thought she might have brain damage because of how non responsive she was… but slowly, she began to turn around and really bonded with us… it was like witnessing a little miracle. She really blossomed and became confident and full of life and finally was able to share trust and love. Sadly, she has departed this world in January. We had her for 3 and a half years, and even though we had a rocky start, it was worth the effort for the wonderful years that we ended up having together.
A definite play on the word “reflection”.
