  • PAIN’S MIGHT … Oh the tender soul of it all
    by C.C. Arshagra

You gave your fists hands to touch Death’s not alone / And you unfurled your wings here to span the whole globe / But were rained on by st…

This poem is Based on and inspired by the painting Healing Old Wounds By MARIAM MURADIAN. Acrylic and oil pastels on canvas. Dear RedBubble Artist, if I may note: Please be inspire by all that RedBubble gives you. And I Ask: If so –Say so. How hard is it to be grateful aloud. The soul of an artist is frail, maybe even too much so in some misunderstanding instances. But, at least if a writer inspires a visual artist, or the opposite of this happens, or any other cross medium translation of artistic expression, I am sure no damage will be done or interpreted as so. If only the truth be told. The honour is a shared one! For me, the mentioning of (and public acknowledgements of) your art as the source is the most important part of this process. For this involves the most sacred and tender art forms I know of –Honesty. Trust. And Respect. I will soon post a Journal entry by this name to tell the story of Amanda Joy’s brush with plagiarism. And my ever-humbling experience in this tale of online support between artist. So now that I have shoved my preverbile esthetic foot down my throat, I’d might well risk a little fantacty of mine. If I were a painter I’d let some of the lines in this poem inspire me to create, shoot, draw, or paint the soul emotions of my impacted interpretation of them. I am actually not asking you to do so! I would only want to welcome it, and from here let the drive be born naturally by you. The excerpt of the poem ‘PAIN’S Might … oh the tender soul of it all’ are my dream lines. Lo, I am a word man. And quite happy to let the beautiful your soul inspiring images of your visual medium move me to pen a poetic gift born of it. But who knows what will move me next. A journal entry inspired one. It is the mention, the true thanks that matters. Art born of art, born of art, baby, this can be fun work. The energy matters. Just think; Your great grandmother was a comment. One hundred years there is you. Mariam Muradian’s painting is perhaps the 8th one to move me so. Yet, it is the first by an artist I have created with before. As a poet, I have often said, “I am a painter of words”. When I speak to an audience about being a poet I most often say, “It is the job of a poet is to say the unsaid, that which seems impossible to say, the thoughts we all feel but for whatever the reason (Fear, security, doubt, a lack of confidence) we do not”. Poetry is in the end a medium of art. Here at RedBubble I have entered a new realm of influence. You art, images, comments, support, the mature beauty of this community is a rare find for me. Here I have risked my fears of exposure faster than I can say I have any. I am so grateful to all of you who have and will inspire me to create. Gratefully yours, / C.C. This is not to under-estimate how riveted my humility feels with each comment. • My first painting ever! This picture was floating around in my head for months before I ever put the brush to canvas.

  • From my collection: / Natural Impressions Featured Art 10 January 2009 Mood and Ambience / Featured Art in many other wonderful groups as well, so many I lost count. Mahalo nui to all the moderators, thank you so much! A composite image of two of my photographs: Alaska Midday Sun and the exquisite black sand beach of Hamoa, Maui Hawai’i “When He Himself reveals Himself, / Brahma brings into manifestation That which can never be seen. / As the seed is in the plant, / as the shade is in the tree, / as the void is in the sky, / as infinite forms are in the void ~ / So from beyond the Infinite, the Infinite comes; / and from the Infinite the finite extends. The creature is in Brahma, and Brahma is in the creature: / they are ever distinct, yet ever united. / He Himself is the tree, the seed, and the germ. / He Himself is the flower, the fruit, and the shade. / He Himself is the sun, the light, and the lighted. / He Himself is Brahma, creature, and Maya. / He Himself is the manifold form, the infinite space; / He is the breath, the word, and the meaning. / He Himself is the limit and the limitless: / and beyond both the limited and the limitless / is He, the Pure Being. He is the Immanent Mind in Brahma and in the creature. / The Supreme Soul is seen within the soul, / The Point is seen within the Supreme Soul, / And within the Point, / the reflection is seen again. / Kabir is blessed because he has this supreme vision!” / Songs of Kabir ~ Translated by Rabindranath Tagore ~ Introduction by Evelyn Underhill ~ 1915 Copyright 2009 – 2010 © Sharon Mau / ourjrny / The Heart Within the Art / My images do not belong to the public domain. / Reproduction is strictly prohibited. / All rights reserved Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi Currently with 2358+ Views 92 Favourites 189 Comments and 1 Sale

  • Aloha E pili mau na pomaika`i ia `oe / Kahakaloa Maui Hawai’i / Live Pono and Practice Aloha / © 2009 Fine Art Photography by Sharon Anne Mau Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi / As Is with no post processing / It was a beautiful day here on the island. / 21 February 2009 Beautiful Kahakaloa is a small isolated village at the end of a valley. The village is home to about 100 people and their homes, two lovely churches, and several roadside stands including the Panini Pua Kea fruit stand and Ululani by the Bay, a pink cart with sodas and snacks run by Ululani Ho’opi’i, wife of recording artist Richard Ho’opi’i. Imagine one of the most biologically rich areas on the islands that is also home to hundreds of plant and animal species found nowhere else on Earth. / Here you will see and learn about the ancient Ahupua’a farming system still intact and operating today. “Gods like Ka-onohi-o-ka-la and Ku-waha-ilo bore to the Heavens the souls of Chiefs “where it was supposed the spirits of Kings and Chiefs sometimes dwelt and afterwards returned them to earth, where they accompanied the movements and watched over the destinies of their survivors” “In every case, the reception the soul met after separation from the body depended on his relations with his ‘Aumakua. A person who has committed a sin against his ‘Aumakua is exhorted to obtain pardon while he still lingers at Pu’u-ku-akahi (the first stopping place) before being conducted to Ku-akeahu (heaping up place) where he must make the final leap into the underworld called Ka-pa’a-heo (the final parting) At the first point, the Pu’u-ku-akahi, his ‘Aumakua may succeed in bringing him back to life.” “Milu is said to have been a Chief on Earth, who, on account of being disobedient to the gods, was swept down into the underworld at death and became it’s ruler. Both Kahakaloa on Maui and Waipio on Hawai’i claim him as Chief. Kupihea says that the Kahakaloa story is the older and the Waipio Milu story is patterned after it….. “ “Entrance into the pit of Milu (Lua-o-Milu) is at a cleft on some high bluff overlooking the sea or in the edge of a valley wall and a tree serves as the roadway by which the soul takes it’s departure. One such entrance, (leaping place) is Kahakaloa (sometimes spelled Kahakuloa) on Maui, Waipio Valley on Hawai’i, Moanalua on O’ahu. Other leaping places of the soul (Leina-ka-uhane) are named at different points about the islands coasts. There is a leaping place for every Ahupua’a, (district) on the Hawaiian Islands.” Ke au Okoa “Kamakau tells us Hawaiians are taught there is a place of darkness called Milu and a place of light called Wakea. The aumakua are the intermediaries between the living and the dead” Na aumakua mai ka po mai / Nana i na pua, ho’okomo iloko o keia po o ka malamalama / Aumakua of the night / Watch over your offspring, enfold them in the belt of light Hawaiian Mythology

  • This series of 8 photographs was the first set of photos I shot that I really amazed me. It has become my most popular series and is still my personal favourite. / The back-drop took 4 hours to set up completley and it is actually in front of my front door in my house. The model was specifically dressed in black to highlight the newspaper back-drop as the main feature. / More than 300 photographs were taken during this photo shoot but it was easy to narrow it down to my final eight. The title for the series wasn’t thought of until I was looking back at the photos I had taken. It was a very ‘spur of the moment’ concept. • Taken on the North Shore of Lake Superior near Tofte, MN, I enjoyed this view one morning from just outside my tent. If you look close, in the distance you can make out the image of a solitary figure walking the beach. In my own life I have found that there is something revitalizing about simply breathing the fresh air this early in the morning. There is something about finding silence in the chaos of this busy world that gives perspective and nourishes the soul. This is something Jesus knew well. According to Mark’s Gospel, “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed” (Mark 1:35). There have been times in my life where getting up this early has felt like work to me, but deep down I know the truth. I know that although my body might feel tired and my muscles might ache, this time will give life to my soul. This photograph is about life.

  • Matted print without frame shown on the right – it is a modern sleek look without the added cost of custom framing and it looks great on any office or home wall. Also consider a loose glossy canvas as option to flat frame as you would with normal paper prints; the texture on a cotton canvas plus the fact that the larger the print (I have personally printed at sizes of up to 1.5 meter on satin semi gloss and glossy canvas) the more spectacular it looks and the texture compliments my art and the ethereal color tone extremely well, it also blends iso200 & iso400 noise so well that it has become a preference in some photos even if I could have used a much lower iso100 speed just for the added painterly effect the grain produces and ‘life’ of the fiber texture it gives prints printed this way – definitely an option I would recommend before considering any other cotton rag matte paper when a bigger size is preferred. • Taken near the town of Springfontein "Springfontein is an important railway junction. The lines from Port Elizabeth and East London to Gauteng converge here while another line runs west to the diamond-producing town of Koffiefontein via Jagersfontein and Fauresmith. The town derives its name from a strong artesian spring on the farm Springfontein. Hartleydale, part of this farm, was chosen as the site for the new village in 1904. Municipal status was granted in 1912. Springfontein is situated 150km south-west of Bloemfontein on the N1. This towns history relates directly to the struggle, and especially to the hardships, of the Anglo-Boer War. Concentration Camp / This concentration camp was situated east of the town. During 1901 it was hit by a heavy snowstorm and many of the tents were damaged. Due to the severe winter the death rate were high in the camp. A total of 704 people, mainly children, died in the concentration camp. Concentration Camp Cemetery / The graves of over 700 Boer and British victims of the Anglo-Boer War buried in the same cemetery. / Matted print without frame shown on the right – it is a modern sleek look without the added cost of custom framing and it looks great on any office or home wall.” —-—-—-—-—— Matted print without frame shown on the right – it is a modern sleek look without the added cost of custom framing and it looks great on any office or home wall. • I took this photo of my son, he makes a great little model and has some wonderful expressions and moods which I have captured on camera. Someone did comment on this photo and said it scared them because of his eyes, they look as if they are looking in to your soul, hense the title. Taken with my Canon 400D, f5, Exposure 1/60 sec, ISO 400, focal length 60mm. Oh I almost forgot I then transform the picture in to Black & White adjusted the contrast considerably and added a slight blue wash to the iris’s.
