  • Another self portrait. Ya…I’m desperate for models. / Took a little work to mount the camera in the dash and eliminate any shake for the multiple exposure. A freshly paved road also helped! / If you can’t laugh at yourself…who can you laugh at? I meant to add this and forgot. This was my inspiration… My pappy said “Son your gonna drive me to drinkin’ / If you don’t stop driving that hot rod Lincoln” Have you heard the story of the hot rod race / Where the Fords and the Lincolns were setting the pace? / Well that story is true cause I’m here to say / I was driving that model A. It’s got a Lincoln motor and its really souped up / And that model A body makes it look like a pup / It’s got eight cylinders, uses them all / It’s got overdrive, just won’t stall It’s got a four barrel carb, and dual exhaust / With foureleven gears you can really get lost. / It’s got safety tubes, but I ain’t scared / Breaks are good, tires fair Pullin out of San Pedro late one night / With the moon and the stars just shinin bright / We was headed up grapevine Hill / Passing cars like they was standing still All of a sudden, in the wink of an eye / A Cadillac sedan passed us by / I said “Boys this ones marked for me” / But by then the tail lights was all you could see Now the fellas rid me for being behind / So I thought I’d let that Lincoln unwind / Took my foot of the gas and man alive / I shoved it on down into over drive Wound it up to 110 / My speedometer said I hit top end / My foot was glued like lead to the floor / That’s all there is, and there ain’t no more Now the boys all thought that I’d lost my sense / Those telephone poles looked like a picket fence / They said “Slow down, I see spots!” / The lines on the road just looked like dots Took a corner, side swiped a truck / Crossed my fingers just for luck / My fenders was clicking the guard rail post / The guy beside me was white as a ghost We had smoke coming from out of the back / When I started gainin on that Cadillac / I knew I could catch him, I thought I could pass / But don’t you know by then we’d be low on gas I had flames coming from out of the side / Feel the tension, man what a ride / I said “Look out boys, I’ve got a license to fly” / And that Caddy pulled over and let us by All of the sudden she started knocking / Down in the dips she started rocking / I looked in the mirror. Red lights were blinking / The cops was after my Hot Rod Lincoln – Damn The arrested me and they put me in jail / Called my pappy to throw my bail / And he said “Son, you’re going to drive me to drinkin’ / If you don’t stop driving that Hot Rod Lincoln” *lyrics by All

  • © Claire McAdams / ALL RIGHTS RESERVED I have been fighting with many people that I love lately and I feel like I am just being tossed around by my emotions. I am at home and remembered I had this awesome dress and wanted to do some shots in it so I tried to capture a jump shot in which I looked like I was just flying aimlessly, because that’s kind of how I feel. I thought texture added something cool here but I kept a copy without it because I really like how it looks both with and without texture.

  • This pic I could not resist taking because the light was just right. The Eye in the background is another pic of myself that I photo shopped in. I thought that the closed eyes with the open eye in the background gave it a nice effect as well as using B&W. Directly below is the image before I photoshopped the eye in the bkgrnd.

  • I wish I could say that this photo was easy to do..but it wasn’t! / While it appears that I simply smeared my lipstick, it’s a bit more complicated than that. I started out by converting it to a B&W-blue filter-then curving it using the red channel only. I then blew it up to about 300%..and airbrushed the dark red paint on..(no less than 200 agonizing brush strokes!) / It was grueling-but fun. (And thanks to everyone who’s commented, favourited & purchased this! Means a lot to me. :) Stats: / * 263 comments * 141 favoritings * 6202 views / >Triple Feature< / Featured in: Featured Art & Photography / Featured in: The Eyes Have It / Featured in: Sold! / / sold: mounted + laminated prints To be featured in Real Magazine -October of / 2009. / / Framed Print / / / / Card / / / / /

  • Charcoal on mylar drafting film, 22×18” The drafting film is translucent, so I have used a moonstone Canson pastel paper under the film for color. I work on the frosted side of the paper for tooth. The mylar lends a lovely soft effect, beautiful for rendering the translucence of skin. It is a tricky surface to work on, just a flick of the finger brings you back to the clean surface. I load my fingers with charcoal to get the soft gradations of tone. There were several unusual spiritual moments for me while working on this self-portrait. One was a near out of body experience while on a walk in the park, which spurred me to write my first poem in 30 years. A few days later, I started seeing black butterflies. Not so unusual in summer I suppose, but I don’t remember seeing this particular type in Chicago, maybe it’s due to our changing weather patterns. The odd thing was that I had just found a photo of a black butterfly online at RedBubble at http://www.redbubble.com/people/knightingail/art/1336726-1-black-beauty Then a black butterfly fluttered around me several times while I was walking that same afternoon! It happened again a couple of days later, this black butterfly flying in loops around me as I walked. Odd that the only black ones I saw, also seemed to notice me as well! Almost like they knew of my transformation. So, that inspired my second poem, “Black Butterfly” and I decided to incorporate a black butterfly into the drawing. The piece was made to fit a vintage distressed frame I found at my local antique shop. The Poem: Bemusing muse Black butterfly Came through the ether Mystical wings Encircled me along the way Enraptured on a summer day Music painted on the sky Black butterfly Blown in from far off dust Astral soul Dressed in stardust Black butterfly Draw me perfect Emergent from this coal black shell Wet wings spread in joy to stand Transformed Flawless at the artist’s hand Evanescent passion lies In our wavelengths intertwined Black butterfly Never caught Light gently in the mind Bring luminous thought (c) Alice McMahon White 2008

  • I Will Survive At first I was afraid, / I was petrified, / Kept thinking I could never live without you by my side, / But then I spent so many nights just thinking how you did me wrong / And I grew stong / And I learned how to get along / And now you’re back / From outer space, / I just walked in to find you here / With that sad look upon you’re face, / I should have changed that stupid lock, / I should have made you leave your key, / If I’d known for just one second / You’d be back to bother me. Go on now go, / Walk out the door, / Just turn around now, / Cause you’re not welcome anymore, / Weren’t you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbyes / Did you think I’d crumble? / Did you think I’d lay down and die? / Oh no not I I will survive / Oh as long as I know how to love / I know I’ll stay alive / I’ve got all my life to live / I’ve got all my love to give / And I will survive / I will survive / Hey Hey! It took all the strength I had / not to fall apart / Kept trying hard to mend / the pieces of my broken heart / And I spent oh so many nights / Just feeling sorry for myself / I used to cry / But now I hold my head up high. / And you’ll see me / Somebody new / I’m not that chained up little person / Still in love with you / And so you felt like dropping in / And just expect me to be free / But now I’m saving all my lovin’ / For someone who’s lovin’ me Go on now go / Walk out the door / Just turn around now / Cause you’re not welcome anymore / Weren’t you the one who tried to break me with goodbye? / Did you think I’d crumble? / Did you think I’d lay down and die? / Oh no not I I will survive / Oh as long as I know how to love / I know I’ll stay alive / I’ve got all my life to live / I’ve got all my love to give / I will survive / I will survive / Hey hey! Patiently I’ve waited baby, waited just for you / and I ain’t gonna move and act / till you do what you’re supposed to do / You got your thing together, and I can dig it too / and that’s the very reason baby / I’m stickin’ here with you / Give it up to give it up girl / You know what I’m talkin’ about / You can dig it, give it up to give it up girl / Yeah, make me shout Give it to me! / Give it to me!
