  • The beauty of the ocean is that there are almost limitless ways of showcasing its different moods and characteristics. The incoherent turbulence is always present especially at the shore where waves end their journey. Low angle and long shutter speed and of course picking up the camera just before the water reached me. • This is the black and white version of my image North Narrabeen Rockpool. / I really like the way that this worked out in black and white, as the contrast and lines in the shot seem to suit the monochrome. / Thanks for taking a look!

  • Eagles Nest is a rock formation located on the South Gippsland coast near Inverloch, Victoria, Australia. It was a fairly dull evening and I was sitting in my car at the Eagles Nest car park watching the sky as I could see a storm approaching. I then noticed an unusual cloud formation coming from the north east towards the ocean so I quickly grabbed my camera gear, ran down the cliff and headed out along the rocks towards eagles nest. I found a good spot out and around on of the cliffs, small waves were crashing on the rocks and I waited for the clouds to approach from the left and hopefully appear right behind Eagles Nest. As it was getting really dark and I had walked quite far over the rocks I decided to head back after only getting a couple of shots. I’d been negotiating may way around the rock pools when lightning started coming out of not only those clouds but all the clouds around me. I stopped for a second to consider getting a shot as I can’t describe how amazing it looked but I felt my hair stand on end (they say if that happens you are about to be struck, or really close), was standing in water, had a large metal tripod in my hand and the lightning was all around me, plus it was almost pitch black except for the lightning strikes. So I took off back to the car as fast as I could although I slipped a few times on the rocks and fell in a few small rock pools as I couldn’t see them, thankfully I somehow managed to protect my camera and make it back to the car, just before the rain started pouring too. So this is possibly my favorite photo.

  • This is a manipulation of a single colour RAW image. Firstly I created 7 TIFF files with different exposures +3,+2,+1,0,-1,-2,-3 EV’s to create an HDR effect. Secondly I converted to Black and White. After various adjustments I used the tutorial by Anna Shaw to add light rays to enhance the scene. Whilst the original shot was taken on a cloudy day I feel the manipulation has added a sense of drama and atmosphere which was not evident in the original. All the manipulation work was done in CS3 The scene is L’Aber, Brittany, France and was taken with a Fuji Finepix S9500 in 2007. /

  • The Challenge…to see how many paintings I could create out of almost nothing while my studio is being renovated…this is matboard…I did say almost…it took black fountain pen ink, a kitchen knife and tea towel to create this scene...

  • I will be painting a sunset for a friend’s birthday soon so I had an idea in my mind of what I wanted to paint so did this on Canson 300 gsm watercolour paper and was happy with the result. 30cm x 20cm. I will have to transfer painting onto large canvas and paint in acrylic but may do one more before I choose. Golden Sunset At the end of the day the light grows small / The dark takes over the ruler of all… / The shadows dance enjoying the time / day mingles with night the golden rays shine. Linda
