  • Another shot of “Austin”

  • This was the kitchen of my childhodd home. Burnt out, roof collapsed. It felt like the Movie TITANIC when I was shooting here. My mind was flashing to the past and back to the present.

  • Evening light over Melbourne’s wharf along The Yarra River.

  • The ruins of St John’s Church in Chester. I love the way it frames the tree. The foundation of the church can be traced back to Saxon times. When in 689 AD King Ethelred (675 – 704) of the Mercians visited Chester and was told by God in a vision to ‘build a Church on the spot where he should find a white hind’. Or so the story goes. The church was built of local red sandstone on a small cliff over looking the River Dee. The Church was shortened and the three east end chapels were left in ruin after the church lost its collegiate status at the time of the Dissolution. • I love these Old dwellings. So much Character.

  • Taken near Walker Flat on the Murray River in South Australia. The overcast day made a great oportunity for some b&w work. / . /

  • It is not quite clear what this structure was? Our guide told us that it was used to store vast amounts of water, and it does appear that that is what happened. it appears that the large blocks around the pillars were there to perhaps prevent the pillars from eroding fom the water flowing around them. Located in the ruins of Leptis Magna in Libya, it is another awe inspiring testament to the amazing architects of the time. /

  • One of the many paved ancient streets of Leptis Magna. Imagine how rough and uncomfortable this must have been traveling along in a chariot or wagon? /

  • I had passed this house many times while driving and had always vowed to take a photo of it, but never got round to it. This house is next to a main road, and I thought that night time would be the best time to get a shot of it. I got there at about 11pm, and it was very creepy there at that time, even though there were cars going past. For this shot, I set up a tripod and had my flash off camera. This is a long exposure (20 or 30 seconds) and I used the ‘painting with light’ technique. I activated the shutter remotely then walked past the front of the house firing the flash multiple times. I have done some editing work in Lightroom and Photoshop to really bring out the creepy quality of this decaying home. The house is at the top of Main South Road, O’Halloran Hill, South Australia.

  • Daydreaming of Nuclear Winter ... poison in the streets, terror in the ruins. Revisiting the first floor of the abandoned radar tower at Red Cliff, Newfoundland. The first floor and ceiling are actually all that remain; the upper floor had walls made of sheet metal, which were removed when the radar tower was dismantled in October, 1961. • The eerie skeleton of Dunstanburgh Castle seen through a sea fret is one of the spectacular sights of the Northumberland coast. It is the county’s largest castle site, its walls have enclosed some 9 acres on the outcrop of the Great Whin Sill. There is little left, but the jagged remains of curtain wall, towers and gatehouse have not undergone modernization or restoration (beyond strengthening) and they furnish plentiful inspiration for a romantic imagination. / Dunstanburgh seems to hold an invincible site on the basalt crag rearing up more than 100 ft from the sea. It is believed to have been a site for Roman and British strongholds but the existing castle was built in the 14th C by Thomas Earl of Lancaster who was executed for treason 9 years after he started the castle. The castle then went to John of Gaunt who added the surviving gateway. During the Wars of the Roses, Dunstanburgh castle changed hands five times, suffering great damage from bombardment and by 1538 it was in ruins. The castle seems to have played no significant part in history but four persons connected with it were canonized or revered as saints: Queen Margaret, Simon de Montfort, Thomas of Lancaster and Henry VI.

  • The remains of Ashby Castle. HDR in photoshop manually from 3 exposures. An English Heritage owned listed site.

  • This dilapidated old building (contructed almost entirely of corrugated iron and presently rusting away in a forgotten paddock) used to be the hub of the community. This is where, as 10 year olds, we used to learn ballroom dancing, scottish country dancing and square dancing. It was pretty old and grotty way back then, and has since deteriorated to the stage where you probably couldnt dance in it without falling through the floorboards. / This pic, taken on my trusty old Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ5 has been layered with a lovely old grungy background. Featured in “This is Relevant” group.

  • A pier head building on an old pier in Liverpool

  • Shot taken in the grounds of Norham Castle, Northumberland, with Panasonic Lumix G1, 14-45mm lens (1/640, f/5.5). RAW conversion via Lightroom and CS3. Also: Teal’s daughter Tia, also posing in Norham Castle’s grounds / Their mother:

  • “Commanding a vital ford over the River Tweed, Norham was one of the strongest of the border castles, and the most often attacked by the Scots. Besieged at least 13 times – once for nearly a year by Robert Bruce – it was called ‘the most dangerous and adventurous place in the country’. But even its powerful 12th-century keep and massive towered bailey walls could not resist James IV’s heavy cannon, and it fell to him in 1513, shortly before his defeat at Flodden. The extensive 16th-century rebuilding which followed, adapting the fortress for its own artillery, is still clearly traceable” – English Heritage This shot was taken inside a remaining section of Norham Castle, Northumberland, with Panasonic Lumix G1, 14-45mm lens (1/800, f/5.0). Best viewed in large format. Also from the Norham Castle series:
