Author: Sally Omar / Word Count: 141 / browse writing next / The years passed quickly / Each one faster than before / Hours flew by / Soon there would be no more She toiled very hard / Working on the land / Her face was wrinkled / Rough were the palms of her hand Her husband passed on / Children moved away / She now treasured every moment / Every single day Old fashioned was she / A woman of pride / Always told the truth / Never did she lie Could not understand / How things were so rearranged / People so different / The world had certainly changed She walked the path / Of the righteous …always eager to please / Prayed every day / Down on her knees She was often lonely / Missed her family and friends / Still she appreciated life / And would till the end She knew the day was coming / To unburden her load / She knew that soon / Would be the End Of The Road / Thanks very much Sally Omar :)

In a place as surreal as this, its hard not to day dream. This was taken at an ancient, monastery which was destroyed by Henry the eighth once upon a time. Sort of represents what i was feeling at this time, not this exact moment but this part of my life. Stopping for a second, trying to figure out where wanted to go, how i would get there. Taking a brief moment to reflect.

Take the Life that you have and give it your best… / Think positive, be happy let God do the rest… / Take the challenges that life has laid at your feet… / Take pride and be thankful for each one you meet… / To yourself give forgiveness if you stumble and fall… / Take each day that is dealt you and give it your all… / Take the love that you’re given and return it with care… / Have faith that when needed it will always be there… / Take time to find the beauty in the things that you see… / Take life’s simple pleasures let them set your heart free… / The idea here is simply to even the score… / As you are met and faced with Life’s Tug of War

Another stone. Another wall… / Another pill. They said I’d be ok. / They said I’d see again..hear again..feel again. / I wanted to believe.. / Another day. Loneliness. Erase the year.. / Again..I’m here. They told me to be a wall. / Told me to be lonely. I didn’t believe them. / So instead, I loved. Now.. / I am free..

Chelsea, Manhattan, NYC 2008 Copyright “Dear Mr. President” / by Pink Dear Mr. President, / Come take a walk with me. / Let’s pretend we’re just two people and / You’re not better than me. / I’d like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly. What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street? / Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep? / What do you feel when you look in the mirror? / Are you proud? How do you sleep while the rest of us cry? / How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye? / How do you walk with your head held high? / Can you even look me in the eye / And tell me why? Dear Mr. President, / Were you a lonely boy? / Are you a lonely boy? / Are you a lonely boy? / How can you say / No child is left behind? / We’re not dumb and we’re not blind. / They’re all sitting in your cells / While you pave the road to hell. What kind of father would take his own daughter’s rights away? / And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay? / I can only imagine what the first lady has to say / You’ve come a long way from whiskey and cocaine. How do you sleep while the rest of us cry? / How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye? / How do you walk with your head held high? / Can you even look me in the eye? Let me tell you ‘bout hard work / Minimum wage with a baby on the way / Let me tell you ‘bout hard work / Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away / Let me tell you ‘bout hard work / Building a bed out of a cardboard box / Let me tell you ‘bout hard work / Hard work / Hard work / You don’t know nothing ‘bout hard work / Hard work / Hard work / Oh How do you sleep at night? / How do you walk with your head held high? / Dear Mr. President, / You’d never take a walk with me. / Would you?

A day at the beach in Essaouira, Morocco. July 2007. A lovely little beach town, in the middle of summer, this place was like an oasis. We left Marrakesh which was getting up to 40 degrees Celsius each day and I remember being on the bus for about 3 hours and then ten minutes outside of Essaouira the temperature dropped about 10 degrees. It was such an amazing relief. Even still, it was very hot and I can’t imagine going to the beach dressed like this. It’s a far cry from Australian beaches I have to say!

This family of 8 is not homeless (though I’m sure they are close to it) The photo was taken in July 2007, the hottest summer I have ever experienced, though probably an annual thing for the locals of Morocco. The family was sleeping on the roof because the days were reaching 45 Celsius, and the nights were not much better. Everyone stayed in the shade during the days and came out at night to go about their business. Even small children were up till 2am. Needless to say, it made my trip exhausting but exciting. Fes or Fez (Arabic فاس [Fās], French Fès) is the third largest city in Morocco, after Casablanca and Rabat, with a population of 946,815 (2004 census). It is the capital of the Fès-Boulemane Region. Fes is one of the four so-called “imperial cities” (the others are Marrakech, Meknes and Rabat). The Medina of Fes el Bali, the largest of the two medinas of Fes, is believed to be the largest contiguous car-free urban area in the world. Fes el Bali is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. (Care of Wikipedia, read more “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fes,_Morocco” ).
