Hoho! Silly Me, I just found out RedBubble has added the black t-shirt option! Yipee!!! So I tried to play around with the new white option and accidentally came up with this effect. If the design is printed in black, you get 4 birds, but if you print it in white, you get 3 birds and a silly random dot. Haha! I find it amusing personally. So now I dont know whether the title ’ odd one out’ or ‘find the invisible bird’ is more appropriate. Hmmm….

Picture this – mature, sophisticated mother of four (well maybe not so mature or sophisticated but it sounded good) running around her home screaming – “I sold one”!!! Everyone thought I had gone a little nuts until I explained that I had just sold my very first card…admittedly its of my rear end but hey I’m not complaining a card is a card!!! So a big massive THANK YOU goes out to whoever bought it! MWA… My daughter wanted to know though how I possibly managed to take that shot of myself – I think she thought I was a contortionist!!

Jacqueline Baker was one of the first artists I added to my watch list. / She has wonderful and very emotive work, mostly in black and white. / She is one of the members of Art of the Middle East group. / My favorite work of her is The Adoration / / which I consider as one of the best works of art I have seen. / Here is some more of her inspiring work: / / I asked Jacqueline a few questions. 1. When and how you have started with your art? / I flirted very, very briefly with photography some years ago but it was only after the death of my nephew Martin in June 2007 that I took up photography seriously. I had volunteered to take some photographs at his funeral and when I presented them to my brother-in-law he silently wept as he looked at them. It was then, in that single life changing moment that I realised the power and impact that a photograph could have on someone else’s life. My brother-in-law and his wife were so grateful that I had captured this tragic event for them that it had a very profound effect on me. The way he looked at me and said thank you with his soul caused such a feeling of the deepest pleasure that amongst all that pain I will never forget it….i only wish the circumstances had been different. The ability to capture an image in a single moment of time and be able to move someone’s emotions held a fascination for me from that moment on. 2. What is your main inspiration and how has your art evolved? / I have always been fascinated with black and white photography, I think this stems from watching black and white films as a child and seeing black and white photographs of people and trying to read their emotions. One thing that will remain forever etched on my mind from my childhood was sitting and watching I think it was called ‘The World at War’ on my parents black and white television. For several weeks I remember I sat and watched on a Saturday morning the world blowing itself up with all the killing, cold blooded murder and genocide and I was horrified but fascinated at the same time at man’s inhumanity to man. Moving on in time I was fascinated by the black and white documentary style used by Steven Spielberg in his film ‘Schindler’s List’. The tones in the film are brilliant, the blacks are true blacks and the whites are true whites. I deeply, deeply admire the depth of the black and white that Spielberg captured with his choice of film. Because of this documentary style I found it to be one of the most emotional and inspirational accounts of what one man can do in the face of such horror. This appeals to my idealism. Idealists seek after truth and are very passionate people and so the images I have recorded with my camera nearly all hold some emotional channel for me, a way of speaking without talking. My main inspiration is a desire to understand fully the role of light (or lack of it) in black and white photography and so I constantly look on the internet and in books at the black and white photography of some of the great masters. I look also at the old painters that use light to create atmosphere in their paintings. I adore Rembrant’s use of a dark background with a single and sometimes smaller secondary light source to create a totally dramatic effect. It was this effect that inspired The Adoration, I focused the camera to read the light and this caused it to throw the background into darkness, this has been without a doubt my most popular image. I hope to create more images like this in time but I also like to experiment with lots of different styles so I’m not sure when I will do it…it will probably be a spontaneous thing, I’m like that, I will just suddenly decide to do something one day and then everything else gets thrown to one side. / My all time favorite photographer is Willy Roni his work is astounding and is so mesmerizing I can look and study it for hours, it’s so exquisite and a true visual feast for me. I also love the people shots of an old British photographer called Frank Sutcliffe (1853-1941) his work of everyday people going about their work in Whitby is again nothing short of exquisite. A more up to date photographer is Emil Schildt and his painting with light images are absolutely wonderful, I always feel like I’ve died and gone to heaven when I look at his work……sigh, thanks to Peter Zentjens for introducing me to his work! And a last one is a photographer that Ken Mucke introduces people to on his profile page and that is a wonderful man that goes by the name of Cole Thompson. If you get a chance to look at his work then please do so it is great! I just love any B&W work done by the old school who really knew their craft and spent hours in the dark room dodging and burning! 3. How does being a creative person and pursuing your creativity affect other aspects of your life? For my home life I’ll let my husband Ron tell you in his own words LOL: “I was married once “ & my daughter Lizzie (16) says: “We can never leave the house quickly, the camera has to be charged and ready for any possible photos that could be taken, which is very annoying.” Abigail (10) says: / “I think my mum could spend a little bit more time with us because when she is taking photographs I feel she has gone and is no longer with us, I also feel happy for her that she has finally found a hobby.” Oops oh dear I’m back now….I think perhaps I need to spend some more time with my family….oh well at least they’re being honest…..I’ll have to sort that out when I’ve finished this! Ok where were we? I feel my photography allows me access to all kinds of situations that normally I wouldn’t have but I also feel (like most photographers) that I hide behind my camera. I experience the world through the viewfinder and I’m happy to do that. Without my camera I am a very private person, not in a horrible way but I don’t really enjoy the company of other people I usually find them very shallow. / Emotionally photography has been a life saver, I had all this pent up creativity and emotion that I really didn’t know what to do with it…it was either explode or implode so I chose the latter as I can’t stand violence. This resulted in a severe depression and the only thing I found any pleasure in was photography….the death of Martin being the beginning of the journey. / Spiritually I feel more fulfilled and closer to God, it is Him after all that gave me this gift and so it pleases me to know I am using it and I know it pleases Him that I am too! I have seen God use the gift he has given me to help heal women’s perception of themselves and that has been so rewarding! I hope that he will open doors to photograph the world in a more documentary way ie poverty or war etc. / Physically photography has helped as I’m now off and out looking for opportunities instead of depressed and hiding. / Financially LOL LOL that says it all, typical artist, I’m hoping eventually to grow in knowledge, experience, confidence and maybe one day a few more sales. 4. Tell us about one person or moment that has made your time on redbubble / particularly special or meaningful. Without a doubt Ken Mucke has been a strong influence in my time on RedBubble probably more than he realizes himself. I adore his work and hope one day to to reach his dizzy heights of absolute perfection. He has quietly helped me in the background to take my B&W work further and for that I acknowledge him here and say Thank you Ken from the bottom of my heart!!!! / I’m just gonna sneak one other in too…The other person that I simply love watching is Russell Klika, his work is so inspirational and so beautiful that I am quite, quite envious lol. He tells it as it is and it is as he tells!! He wants the world to see the beauty he sees in the people of war zones such as Iraq and his desire to tell the world what he sees is so passion driven that I find that I can’t wait for him to upload, I LOVE passionate people. 5. Show & tell us about five works on redbubble that have moved or inspired you. / The first is my all time absolute favorite and it’s Ken Mucke’s image The Last Tango it isn’t on RedBubble but he does have one similar called The Dance it’s just that The Last Tango is so special it’s breathtaking! / The second is by Russell Klika in his series called Iraq it is so poweful with such a sad little girl whose top is too big and the colors and framing are fantastic! / The third is by Jean M. Laffitau whose exquisite image wowed me when I first joined RB / The fourth is by Phillip French a powerful image about war / The fifth is by Enalu for me this is PASSION with a capital P I just adore the beauty and desire in this image, it is not posed and captures the desire in my heart…I’m so jealous hehe! /

This painting, I just found out, rather by accident, has been featured in ADAWG. Not gong to take the time to look up the link for the group, as I am thoroughly convinced anyone who is looking at my work already belongs to it; or, at least, knows where to find the link on other works of mine. Thank you for the feature, and if I say thank you some more again, later, it is only because I’m scatter—brained! Now, the All Things Orange Group: I wrote about them on this same painting, as it was firmly rejected in all aspects of it that were uploaded at the time. I posted that on the description, along with my email to the co-hosts. One of those co-hosts replied back to me, wonder of wonders, and then went even further than that, by acknowledging that they were probably the person who rejected them and telling me to submit them again. The ones that I did submit again were accepted. They were right about one of them, though, for, even though the whole painting is predominantly orange, it really didn’t show in one detailed scan I had uploaded. I think this is an attribute among co-hosts that should be praised, and followed as an example. What she did was wonderful, and it would have still been wonderful if I was wrong, as was pointed out by the fact that in one part I was very definitely wrong at the time. Come to think of it, my example should also be praised and followed: I read the rules, I posted, work was rejected, I re-read the rules and group description, I contacted all the co-hosts (letting them know this was happening) and asked for information without calling anyone a filthy name. I know, from my stint as co-hosts of a group, polite queries and lack of filthy name-calling really make a co-host feel more like replying; especially, most especially, when coupled with a good reason for the query even existing. Anyway, I did very much appreciate the response. It was mature, responsible, friendly, but not overly apologetic: very good response for a host of a group. Thank you ADAWG, you lovely beings, for the feature, and thank you All Things Orange for putting up with me, too. lol

WOW ..I WOKE UP FEELING PRETTY BLUE.. THEN I WROTE ABOUT IT.. THEN… YOU GUYS RESPONDED WITH SUCH GLORIOUS LOVE THEN… ONE OF MY FAV POEMS FEATURED IN MY FAV GROUP…CORE THEN.. MY FAVE SOUL SEEKER/ARTIST KUMARJI . JUST WROTE A JOURNAL REMINDED ME…..........ONE YEAR TODAY.. I LEFT THE DEPTHS OF WHAT I ‘THOUGHT’ A FAILED LIFE AND DID NOT KNOW WHO I WAS…..AGAIN... AND THAT MORNING I WENT TO MY COMPUTER AND OPENED UP TO A SITE CALLED RED BUBBLE AND THE REST AS THEY SAY IS HISTORY!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU RED BUBBLE!! / THANK YOU TO MY LOVERS OF LIFE HERE ALL!!!!!!! I TOTALLY LOVE YOU!! PS HERE IS MY FIRST JOURNAL ENTRY BACK IN ‘THE DAY’ THIS WAS A FEW DAYS AFTER I LOGGED ON HERE.. BOY.. ONE YEAR LATER..GEESZZ I GOTA JOB THAT GIVES ME ALL THE TIME I NEED FOR MY ART / AND WRITING AND I HAVE YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! linaji FEB 12TH 2008 I am yet to be bubbled out Last night I just had to stop. For some of these practiced veterans on this site who have honed the holiness of their craft will attest to I am sure; it is a prize when one finally lets go and pays attention to that which is really the peg that fits into the round hole, the round jpeg…hehe. I have scattered my writing, my photo’s and my passion all over my bedroom for years. Recently I have used this beautiful arena here at Red Bubble, as a catharsis for my fledgling momentum towards the me I have discovered in the last few days. I have made some pretty bold decisions. I am going back to basics and pursuing the dreams I have let go of over the years. Wait, I have to be honest, there were no dreams, I never dreamed that I would pursue art, or any craft thereof, it was my brothers domain as his work was well in the making since I was a child. I remember his ability to watch TV and draw at the same time. Still to this day, he does exactly that, watch some media piece, perhaps a movie of his choice while he works. I am having a hard time today deciding what to do but I have promised a friend I would help her out by selling a product or several that have to do with a branch of business I have been interested in and actually had a business in over the last few years.. Interior Design (emphasis on Green Design). I just don’t feel it. I am trying to decide; no I think I have decided that I need to take up my calling. The trick is the money thang.. Anyway with the unlimited supply of money and ideas available perhaps after I go through the motions of showing up for life today the answers will come, that is what I am betting on. So off I go leaving my dearest RB pals for a bit and sift through the day. I leave this journal entry with hope, happiness and a bit more clarity than I have enjoyed in a while. / LindaR / reply I can so relate to your writing and feelings and perspective – thanks for saving me some “ink” :) / / Nancy Fischer / reply same here. i decided – in november as a matter of fact that my creative energy deserved attention and have found in my writing and with color and design and abstrackts and landscape phototos, etc. that i can breathe again. i will not compromise my art or writing to a journalist or someone who suggests that i should this or i should that. right now having it be my lifeline is good enough. the money thing, yes that’s something we all have to manage, at least to pay our bills – i was a six figure girl for a long time but couldn’t put two sentences of a poem together. i’m happier now. stay basic and love what you do. you never know where that can lead…. life is so much more than money. there’s art and beauty and love and friendships and the sea and …. and… and… and…..on and on and on…….. / Add your comment as a reply to Nancy Fischer / ) * / adgray / reply / / Yes Linaji we must pay dues in this world. / [You just encouraged me to put up my latest poem – “Paying Dues”] / Once there was a time shamans and bards were honoured guests the households privileged to have them visit, wealth was to have your own live with you. / But now artists are seen as “Bludgers” as the Australian slang would describe it / Yet history is recorded from the cross references of culture – created by artists / And mankind seek art in all it’s forms to express themselves or escape their woes / You think they’d like us a bit more and give us a hand to let us get on with it huh? ~ adg xox / PS I decided I was a writer when an ankle injury forced me to be house bound and on crutches for the best part of 8 months and in all that time I saw no one but my mother and my children. I could not return to uni and finish my arts/education degree but more frustratingly I could not go to the book store or library to satisfy my thirst for reading. So I wrote my own book – a saga too large for here! And finally I showed my family what I was “wasting my time doing” and found the support from one brother – one out of 20 family members but one was enough I declared myself a writer! ~ adg xox / / MAN O MAN.. WHAT A TRIP.. THANK YOU SO MUCH KUMARJI.. YOU HAVE TRULY MADE MY DAY AS RED BUBBLE HAS HELPED TO MAKE MY LIFE… BITCHEN!!!!!* (Serioius.. I never used that word when it was in vogue.. but it came to me today.. my one year here…. and well.. today it totally fits!!!)*

GOOD GOD.. / I allowed myself to see a documentery called “The Union: The Business Behind Getting High (2007)” and what a doozy.. It never ceases to amaze me how the stupidity of our far right thinking gets us. We spent more money on arresting and finding growers of marijuana and building jail after jail to house the arrest of these growers and distributors than we do on all the heroin, crack cocaine, meth labs ect all the hard drugs participants combine!! Did you know before 1930’s Hemp was forseen back then as a billion dollar industry!! BACK THEN.. billions of dollars is like now trillions..Holy Cow.. will we ever get out from under our own stupidity and become ENLIGHTENED!! Just for a minuet I find peace in my week and in the mood for allowing for all that is in the contrast of life… and the next I watch something that is sooooooooooo crazy and thought-provoking like the money being made in the building of private prisons.. oh my yikes…. then… WELL THANK GOD FOR Unconventional Artistry GROUP AND THE AMAZING HOSTS… / CHEYWINGS AND EARTHMONSTER / SENDING OUT WORD that I had been given the complete honor of being their featured artist this go round and an invitation to view my lastest work LIMBER TRULY ..
