This is an IR shot taken at my favourite location on the Hunter River in Hexam, Newcastle, NSW, Oz.
Morpeth Bridge Completed in 1898, Morpeth bridge is the oldest surviving example of an overhead braced Allan truss road bridge in service, and is one of three surviving overhead braced timber truss road bridges in NSW. Most of its engineering details are intact, and the bridge is in good condition. Allan trusses were a major development which superseded the McDonald truss bridges which preceded them, and were an extremely successful design. Major innovations were made in the areas of maintenance, cost of construction, and the achievable span length. The bridge has a high degree of technical significance. Timber truss bridges were important in the development of the road network in NSW. Before the construction of these bridges, river crossings were often treacherous, and an impediment to efficient transport. Through this, the expansion of rural NSW, particularly the mining and agricultural sectors, was facilitated. The bridge has a historical association with Percy Allan, senior bridge designer at the Public Works Department, and is important to the history of Morpeth. Morpeth Bridge is located in the Hunter region, which has 15 historic bridges each constructed before 1905, and it gains heritage significance from its proximity to the high concentration of other historic bridges in the area. In 1998 there were 38 surviving Allan trusses in NSW of the 105 built, and 82 timber truss road bridges survive from the over 400 built. Morpeth bridge is a representative example of overhead braced Allan timber truss road bridges, and is assessed as being Nationally significant, primarily on the basis of its technical and historical significance. / / / / /

Princeton, NJ – May 2008 – Taken as an HDR
An edit of a photo i took at Cape Otway Lighthouse just of Victoria’s Great Ocean Road in Australia a few months ago on the 28th of February 2008. HDR’d in Photomatix from one RAW file . Found a pic of some birds i took at Elwood Beach a while ago and added them in Photoshop. Some tweaking was also done in Lightroom including the black and white conversion and above is the end result. The Lighthouse is just one of many beautiful attractions in the Great Otway National Park. CAPE Otway Lightstation is the oldest, surviving lighthouse in mainland Australia. The light, which has been in continuous operation since 1848, is perched on towering sea cliffs where Bass Strait and the Southern Ocean collide. For thousands of immigrants, after many months at sea, Cape Otway was their first sight of land after leaving Europe. This elderly woman sits at the window and contemplates the world outside. She does not see far beyond the window frame because her world has diminished considerably. Two years ago she was officially diagnosed with dementia after a life threatening surgery and long hospital stay. However, her family and friends noticed a difference in her personality over the last several years. Once a proud and hard working single mom, she raised two children during the 60’s and 70’s at a time when single parenthood was not as widely accepted as it is today. At present, she is reduced to little more than the passive demeanor of a quiet child. She is aware of the reduction in both her mental and physical abilities. She also understands that she is helpless to change anything. / It takes great courage to face the inevitable. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia; it accounts for 64 per cent of all dementias. For example right now in the US, Alzeihmer’s has surpassed diabetes and is the sixth leading cause of death. As baby boomers are rapidly approaching the age of retirement it is believed that 10 million baby boomers will develop Alzheimer’s in their lifetime. Currently, there are more than 24 million people in the world with dementia—this is estimated to rise to 81 million by the year 2040.6 / Statistics taken from both the Canadian and American Alzeihmer’s Society. / Published by Redbubble in Compassion, Courage and Friendship book October 2008 / Compassion, Courage & Friendship Top Ten in the Mood & Ambience, The Seated Human challenge, July 2009 / Featured in the Nirvana group October 2008 / Featured in the ImageWriting group November 2008 / Featured in the RB Buyer’s Booth November 2008 / Featured in the Stillness Speaks group November 2008 / Featured on RB homepage on November 25/08 / The Fine Art of Photography

A station that time has mostly forgotten all about stands waiting for a time that may never come. These old buildings and rails remember an era where hundreds of happy faces passed through here on their way home or on their holidays: They dream of a time long since passed. The Summer sky presents its amber glow to the station and casts its pigment all over the scene, highlighting the old charm of the woodwork and enhancing the shaddows. There is a romantic stillness captured within this scene. It is easy for us to imagine a crowd of people gathered waiting on a station that looks imaculate and yet, we can also see that this truly is the End of the Line. Well here it is….after about 150 hours I’m finally done!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN I’m so sorry it’s been tough for me to catch up with everyone lately…so I thought I’d say hi and wish everyone a safe and fun Halloween!! After 5 months of chemo…and now on radiation…soon life will be back to normal. This month is my 1 year anniversary that I found my lump, and I am so thankful to have gotten this far in the game. With 6 1/2 weeks of radiation…I have less than 2 weeks to go, and one final surgery. I can’t believe I’m almost at the end of this!! I also wanted to thank all of my friends out in RB land for such wonderful, positive and amazing support you have given me since I was diagnosed with breast cancer. When I originally joined here in Oct of 2007…I never expected to make so many friends. The community here is so uplifting…and I am so lucky to know all of you!! From my heart to yours…thank you!! I expect life to finally be at normal pace in about 1 month…so forgive me if I haven’t been able to drop in a lot lately…but I want all of you to know you are always on my mind…and I truly love you all!! xoxo / Kellie P.S. I took this shot a couple years back in North Idaho near the Canada border (1 month before it was torn down). Such a shame to see these old beauties taken away…but was fortunate to come across it before it was gone! :) My Little Devil /
