I have given this some treatment to give it a B/W ‘60s look. To see the grain at the sizes available it is best viewed large. My Nikon F bought in 1964 with a 105mm f/2.8 lens. I could only afford one lens and the 105mm was my choice as it was great for beauty head shots. Alongside it is the D3 that I purchased in 2008. It is also sporting a 105mm focal length lens. This time a VR macro. Who would have guessed in 1964 that one day there would be no more film. We would be shooting using a bit of plastic that held hundreds of exposures in it’s own memory on a camera that had it’s own computer built in.. Take that man to the funny farm. 105mm is still my favourite focal length for head shots after 44 years, so at least some things never change. Technical Details: Camera: Nikon D300 / Lens: Nikkor 85mm f/2.8 PC Nikkor / ISO: 200 / Exposure: 1/125 sec at f/32 / Flash: Nikon SB800, SB-R200×2 / Flash Mode: TTL / Post Processing: Lightroom 2, Photoshop CS3 Main flash through opaque perspex sheet, and the other two either side of a Dome Studio Light Tent. © 2008 John Hooton Photography
Monarch hanging on as she dries her wings for her first flight. It appears that this butterfly only has four legs, but with Monarchs the front pair of legs usually remain tucked up under the body and can be hard to see. / Nikon D70s / 18-50mm / F8, 1/320…As is / 1/10/09 – 366/52 / / /

Featured in All Things Black – 6/23/09 Built for the Florida East Coast Railway in 1924 by the American Locomotive Company, #253 is an 0-8-0 road switcher that was designed to assemble and move whole trains in the yard and do light rail work. When the FEC went diesel, she and her sisters were retired and sold. Most fell to the torch, but #253 and a few others escaped to work for some smaller railroads throughout the country. (From the brochure) #253 was retired in 1956 and was on display in Texarkana until the late 1990’s where she was kept in a covered area that helped to keep her in restorable condition. After considerable roadblocks and detours, she has finally found her rightful place in Ft. Pierce, FL to be transformed into that wonderful workhorse that she once was. A few facts about #253 / Weight: 215,000 lbs. (108 tons) / Lenght: 70 feet / Boiler: 7 foot diameter / Top speed: 35mph / Tender capacity: 8,000 gals of water & 2,000 gals of fuel oil #253 is one of six remaining engines of a total of 275 owned by FEC Ry Locomotives. #253 is also the only full size steam locomotive to be operated in the state of Florida and the only example of its type to be operating in the United States of America. Now resides in Ft. Pierce, FL. Full restoration is said to be finished by late 2009 or early 2010. Please help support the efforts of all those involved in the restoration project and museum (they have some awesome things in there) with a purchase of this image or the others shown (available upon request). Proceeds from the sales will be split and donated to the Steam Locomotive Association 253. A special thanks to the guys that showed me around and their wealth of information and support of me and their project. / / Nikon D70s / 18-50mm / F14, 1/400 / RAW / 6/15/09 – 556/6

Have you ever heard the saying “that a house has a soul”, well this one does, it captivates you with its presence, old and beautiful, you fall in love with it as soon as you walk in the door, but that is when the evil starts, your trapped in its grip, the whispering starts, but your the only one who hears it..its never ending, you hear it in your waking hours, you hear it in your sleep..until it drives you to the brink of disaster, you can’t take it anymore and you find yourself giving in..letting the whispers take you away..mind..body and soul….To complete madness. This is my Baby Boudy, he is a Bullmastiff and the most sweetest dog in the world..the only down fall with Boudy is he drools this awful slime, and when he shakes his head ..this slime flies everywhere…everyone has fallen victim to it, it has landed on their heads, their arms..I have to wash my walls and window sills every other day from where he lays his Jowls on them to look outside, but then he gives me “this look” and I can’t help but say AAWWW You’re so cute!!
