This is one of my favorite photographs from that amazing morning, because it has 3 of my favorite things in it – Mt Barker Summit & it’s shadow in the fog, Black Boys (Xanthorrhoea Quadrangulata) & of course that amazing blanket of fog : )

This photo was taken from Wild Horse Mountain facing towards Mt Beerwah, one of the Glasshouse Mountains. Beerwah, according to local Aboriginal legend, is the pregnant mother of this family of mountains. If you look at the left-hand side of the mountain you should be able to see the shape of a reclining pregnant woman.

Norway, the most beautiful country in the world – or so I personally think. Endlessly inspiring, every view mesmerising, I love it. I have tried to emphasise the ever-present tranquility by focusing on this pile of stones, quite a common site in western norway incidentaly. / I hope you like it!

Back to the Leicester rural landscapes…..... / This was taken near the village of Ashby Magna. My timing could have been better – storm in the morning, sun at lunch, big fluffy clouds early afternoon, grey overcast later, then this. It is the opposite corner of the field in which I took Harvests Final Curtain a few days earlier.

A silhouette of a native Australian ‘black boy’ (Xanthorrhoea Quadrangulata) at Mount Barker Summit. The Black Boy is for me quite an iconic Australian Native. I have used earthy tones in the background to compliment it, and as a representation of some of the wonderful vibrant earthy colours of OZ.

Bela,as a Rotweiller pup with her first chew. Rescued from the back of a van, she had been weened early and had been ‘caged’ in a van as the owner travelled the local area selling pet supplies. A very special dog as she timed her arrival with our tenth wedding anniversary and truly settling ın Turkey. I had had Rottweiler rescue dogs in the UK and had fallen in love with the breed – Roxy and Clyde are dear departed friends. She mated with Troy in January 2009 and produced a wonderful litter of pups: they were born on the anniversary of Clyde’s passing a year ealier. From the litter we intended to keep a boy and name him Clyde after the dog we rehomed with friends in the UK and possibly a girl (Mollie). Sadly, we fell in love and kept four …Mollie, Bonnie and Fluff. Bela is now neutered. The Rottweiler, or Rottweil Metzgerhund (“Butchers Dog”), is a “medium to large size, stalwart dog” breed originating in Germany as a herding dog. It is a hardy and very intelligent breed. Rottweilers also worked as draught dogs, pulling carts to carry meat and other products to market. “Rottweiler breeders aim at a dog of abundant strength, black coated with clearly defined rich tan markings, whose powerful appearance does not lack nobility and which is exceptionally well suited to being a companion, service and working dog.” The Rottweiler was kept busy in these traditional roles until the mid-19th century when railroads replaced droving for getting livestock to market. Although there are still Rottweilers working stock all over the world, many other roles have been found for this versatile breed. During the first and second World Wars, Rottweilers were put into service in various roles including as messenger, draught and guard dogs. Currently they are often used as search and rescue, assistance, guide dogs for the blind, guard and police dogs in addition to their traditional roles. Although an extremely versatile breed used in recent times for many other purposes, the Rottweiler is first and foremost one of the oldest, if not the oldest, of herding breeds. A multi-faceted herding and stock protection dog of exceptional ability, it is capable of working all kinds of livestock under a wide variety of conditions. The breed is an ancient one, whose history stretches back to the Roman Empire. In those times, the legions traveled with their meat on the hoof and required the assistance of working dogs to herd the cattle. One route the army traveled was through Württemberg and on to the small market town of Rottweil. The principal ancestors of the first Rottweilers during this time was supposed to be the Roman droving dog, local dogs the army met on its travels, and dogs with molosser appearance coming from England and The Netherlands. This region eventually became an important cattle area, and the descendants of the Roman cattle dogs proved their worth in both driving and protecting the cattle from robbers and wild animals. However, by the end of the 19th century as railroads became the main method for moving stock to market, the breed had declined so much that in 1900 there was only one female to be found in the town of Rottweil. Black glass magic – I had gone on this shoot with a bad attitude, expecting the sky to be bland and the day to be a waste of time, and therefore I set the camera on large jpg so I wouldn’t waste too much computer space….As it turned out, I’ve managed to drag out some amazing results. This is another straight from the camera image, although I had to take it into PS to straighten the horizon…. Canon 5D Mk II, 16-35mm at 16mm, f/10, 90seconds, ISO 50, Hoya NDX400, Singh Ray 3 stop reverse grad, Lee 0.9 ND grad, tripod, cable release, lots of guessing….I should point out the red sky is enhanced by the Singh Ray filter, which seems to put a colour cast across the ND area when used in conjunction with the Lee filter…. - / SEASCAPES / NEW ZEALAND / PEOPLE
