This work was featured in Live, Love, Dream. The background (sky and water) is a photograph of clouds I took during summer 2007 just before sunrise. I never really figured out what to do with it. I enjoy photographing the foggy autumn mornings. I also dabble some with my family’s genealogy. I find it interesting to see how my forefathers lived. This Photo is a combination of the two interests. I think the times past is important and should be preserved. / This is Mingus Mill located on the North Carolina side of the Great Smoky Mountain N.P.It is one of the many historic structures preserved by the Park Services. It was built in 1886.It is one of two operating grist mills in the GSMNP.These mills were a vital part of the communities of that era.The people of that era could grow there grain but still needed to have it ground so they could have there day to day bread. / I feel it’s important to call peoples attention to structures like this. They may then have a better understanding of those wishing support to help preserve them.So our grandchildren can see the struggles of how we became a nation

I was inspired by Margaret Preston’s work on this occasion, wanting to give the impression of a print somehow. This is a mixed media production in which I used ink, pastel, acrylic and charcoal.

Early one January morning, I got out of bed before dawn and headed in to London and the Thames. I knew where I wanted to get the shot from. I set up the tripod and camera and waited. I hoped the sun would be visible, but had nothing more to base the possibility on other than the sky had been red at sunset the night before. My luck was in!
