Memories wrapped in stone and tree shadows. A place to reflect, and wonder about life. Poulnabrone dolmen is a 5,000 year old portal tomb in the limestone Burren area of County Clare, Ireland. The dolmen consists of a massive flat capstone supported on several upright pillars, and would originally have been covered by a mound of earth. Archeological excavations found several traces of human remains at the burial site, which now stands as a stark reminder of an ancient civilisation. Looking back through the mists of time, who knows what ancient religious rites took place at this barren and windswept scene?

This image is replacing my previous post of “For Whom The Bell Tolls”... There were a couple things I didn’t like about the last image and I have since corrected them in this version. / / This is St. Pauls Church in Habour Grace. The church was built in 1835. I took this shot at midday with a beautiful blue sky and white fluffy clouds but I really wanted to attempt to make it more of a darker, gothic image. Thanks to Heather King for her great work on an image of mine! Here’s my (belated) turn with a cool photo of hers! Called ‘Chained to the Grave’, which is inspired by stories of vampires I’d read and heard as a kid. Particularly one a friend told me of a grave on the Isle of Man where a creature was literally chained into the grave from ages past. The blessed chains were removed one night by drunken kids having fun, and everyone joked about it – but no-one went out at night again until the grave was chained down again! I’ve long ago lost track of this friend (her world moved in different circles to mine regretably), but still remember the time I got to share with her.
