Just to add a little contrast to my previous barbed wire photo, here is one I took whilst in New Zealand Recently. I loved the way the frost grew on the wire.
I took this photograph while visiting my family in Switzerland. This is my aunt’s orchard, during one of those long, foggy winters when everything seems perpetually covered in hoarfrost. Treated in photoshop. Unfortunately, I took this before I upgraded to a Canon Rebel, so it’s low res and only available as a card here on RB, though I’ve successfully enlarged it to a 5×7.
Infrared / / / / / /
This is an IR shot of Nobby’s Beach in Newcastle, Australia. / / I’m keen to see how many connotations you can all come up with. / / This is the beach where the Pasha Bulker came ashore in a huge storm we had earlier in the year. / / / / / / / / / /
Gone for something a tad darker…still infrared and still with the reflection. / / /
We had a really big storm here this afternoon and I managed to capture a lightening bolt….. in IR….I told you I never take off the filter…lol This is looking out my backdoor. I had a 10sec exposure and an aperture of 5.0 – it’s a little dark…but the sky was actually really dark too so there wasn’t much light around and I know the composition is not brilliant…. but I’m still really pleased with it.
This is my son, Harrison. He turns 6 in May. Sometimes I look at him and I can’t believe that he’s real…it’s so hard to comprehend that once upon a time he was growing inside me…. and now he’s a little person. / / I’m a High School English teacher. Sometimes I’ll see some of those “naughty” kids and wonder how it all went so wrong. I’m sure they all started out just like Harrison, wide eyed and innocent. / / I hope I can do a good job guiding him in life so that he makes good choices and developes compassion for his fellow human beings….maybe then he’ll turn out to be one of the “good” kids. / / / / / /
I took this one at Redhead Beach. That big structure is the “Shark Tower”. I think it’s getting a work-out this summer. / / / Camera: FujiFilm FinePix S7000 / Date: 27-01-2008 at 7:36PM / / ISO200 / f/8 / 1/30 sec exposure / Polarising Filter / / / / /
I wasn’t sure about uploading this one but I decided to because this was the easiest infrared picture I have ever processed. I channel swapped the colours and that is all….I haven’t done anything else to it. Normally I have to play with levels and heaps of other stuff to get the blues right and the white actually white, but for some reason this one didn’t need any adjusting at all…not sure why. Here are the camera details in case you’re curious… Camera: FujiFilm FinePix S7000 / Date: 16-02-2008 @ 11:46AM / Location: Kurnell – just around the corner from where Captain Cook landed. ISO200 / f/8 / 2.5sec exposure / R72 filter / Tripod
A train departing. Camera: FujiFilm FinePix S7000 / Location: Wickham Station, Newcastle, Oz. / Date: 4th March, 2008 @ 8:17PM ISO200 / Focal Length: 7.8mm / f/8.0 / Exposure: 6.5sec / Filter: Polarising filter / Tripod
If you look closely you can see two trains in this one. Firstly there is the blur of one on the left track heading away from the camera and then there is one approaching on the right track. I’ve deliberately left in it’s yellow light beam… Can you see them try viewing it large.. This was taken on the same night as Departure /
Inspired by the song “I’m Not Missing You” by Abby Dobson from her album “Rise Up”. i’m not missing you / i’m not staring into space / i’m not blue / i’m not blue i’m not running movies in my head / i’m not sleeping in your t-shirt and making tea for you / searching for your feet in bed i’m not missing you / i’m not staring into space / i’m not blue / i’m not blue
Something a little different from me. Took this over the lake. It’s lights reflecting in the water. I liked the colour.
I got up at 4 this morning to drive 50mins for some sunrise shots. / Fancy getting up at that hour and then realising that your favourite picture out of the bunch is b&w ..stupid, I know! Morisset, Lake Macquarie, NSW.
Huge waves today…surfers everywhere….major bummer because I only had my 85mm with me…
I liked this…it’s taken with my Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM. I am loving this lens =-)
OK…I admit it….I am completely obsessed with this old chair….. I just wanted to let you know that I will be posting more pictures of it…at least until my obsession is satisfied….or the chair falls apart. I figure, if I am going to lug it all over the country side I have to at least post pictures of it to make it worthwhile….....I just hope you’ll come along for the ride. If you’re really keen I have more versions on another site
Another day…another location with my chair… This is taken outside the “Fred Ash” building in Newcastle, Oz. More Chair photos can be seen here
From a newborn shoot.
My infrared version of this famous Melbourne landmark. Canon EOS450D and 18-55mm kit lens / HOYA R72 filter / f/5.6 / ISO400 / 13sec exposure So..how did I do it?? / Well, the best that I can remember is….. The image was converted to B&W with a Photoshop Action. Then I duplicated the layer and added a high pass filter to it then used Topaz Adjust on that layer and then altered the Opacity (I can’t remember what method I used when blending the layers…oops). (I may have also inverted this layer and added it aswell to give more contrast).... After combining those layers I then used Topaz Adjust again on the whole image, made it a hidden layer mask and just painted in the details on the building….or something like that!
Sunrise at Dudley Beach. Definitely go large to see this one.
